Problems with save games

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:20 pm

Well I started playing to see how the game looks like, after some time I quicksaved and quit the game, when I launch the game its everything ok, but now all my quicksaves (and normal saves too) seems to come back to my 1st save, I mean, I quick save quit the game, launch it again, and the save I just made doesn't exist, theres only my first auto/quicksaves, so if I can't get far in the game without loosing everything I've done when I quit the game.
Someone else is getting this?
EDIT: it seems all configuration changes in game also reset when I quit the game, like the Kill Cam Mode I set it to None and it get back to Cinematic when I quit and launch the game

Yup. Having the same problem. In fact sometimes my saved games will disappear mysteriously and then reappear at odd times when I try reloading my games.

I am also having a problem with the configuration settings. The video settings reset each time so I can't adjust them. I'm going to try re-downloading and reinstalling the game.

Sounds like the game forgets where the save folder is to me

now my normal saves (MUST be new ones without overwrite) are normal, but even if I DELETE the quick save, it keep coming back
Actualy I'll keep testing the saves and see if my "theory" is right... and they're not going to disappear or something making new saves instead of overwriting old ones

It's a problem with Steam Cloud Syncronization for saved games. The problem is, even with Steam Cloud support fully disabled for your profile, it is still syncing the saves.

I'm working around it at the moment by flushing the applicable folder for Fallout:NV under the Steam/userdata directory before starting the game to prevent it from copying over the remote files to your saved directory.

Hopefully they patch this soon.

Gstaff,

It is the steam cloud functionality that is being forced on even when disabled and isn't updating consistantly. I confirmed it on two different machines with non-similar configurations. Like I said, using the standard steam cloud save issue fix of flushing the applicable remote directory prior to start fixes it and confirms that it is the problem.

Running the game in offline mode all of the time would also be a workaround to this problem until they fix it. Steam Cloud support likely wasn't enabled during QA testing, which is why this wasn't caught prior to release.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be screaming about this today once it effects them for the first time, hopefully they can push out a fix quickly.

Great game otherwise! Haven't run into any other performance issues or bugs at all yet.

well the only thing that I know is all my new saves are intact when I launch the game, only the quick/auto save that keep being "reseted"

How do I figure out which folder is the applicable folder?

edit: after opening files in notepad, I found the one. I move its contents to a backup, but my saves have not come back.

So is it only syncing the auto and quick saves? I thought each game only gets 1MB of space on the cloud, and I just looked at my Fallout 3 quick and auto save and they are over 6MB each.

So, I backed up my saves to another folder, disabled steam cloud, and deleted the saves from the save fold. Somehow the old saves came back. Not sure what is going on here.

You have to do it EVERY time before you start Fallout : NV, regardless if you disable Steam Cloud or not; it's a bug.

If your old saves are already overwritten, they are lost. Check for .bak files in your My Games/FalloutNV/Saves directory, that is your only chance.

If you delete the applicable folder for FalloutNV in steam/userdata after EVERY time you run the game, it won't overwrite your saves.

Oof. :( PC user here, Windows 7 64-bit.

Yeah I just had a crash while walking towards Primm, and I completely lost my save games for the last hour. The quick-save reverted back to one I did Much earlier, and several saves are simply gone.

As bugs go, this is bad. :banghead:

I also note a bug with "Continue" from the main menu, it continues from the last Quicksave, not the last Save that I made. Possibly related.

Help? :(

I just lost 3 hours of gaming because of this. I already didn't like Steam, then I had to wait an extra two hours to play (*why* make everyone wait for midnight PST?), and THEN I lose my save games? Unacceptable, pretty much killed PC gaming for me (since every game and its mother needs Steam now).

I just played another 20 minutes (steam cloud disabled) and made a few "real saves" and quicksaves.
I quit, and launched again, my quicksaves reverted to old ones from hours ago but my real saves are still there.
At least I can keep playing now. =/

Yes I think the QuickSave functionality has a serious issue.

I'm starting to wonder if this has to do with the fact that I did not install Steam in the auto/default location, but in my C:\Games\Steam folder. Maybe a shot in the dark, but thats the only non-standard thing I've got - this is a brand new Windows 7 64-bit install.

Just lost about 2 hours worth of progress. This is terrible.

I'm having this issue as well (lost about 3hrs worth of gameplay). Currently quicksave is not working at all. If you exit the game, when trying to reload the quicksave it is reverted back to one from way early in the game.

Manual saves are broken but work, it seems to rearrange old save files to the top of the list, delete a couple and leave the most recent near the bottom.

Very serious issue. How was this not found during testing??

Yep, same thing is happening to me, I have been playing for about 6 hours and have had a few BSoD's on certain quests and crashes to my desktop and upon loading up New Vegas all of my saves were rolled back to my first saves. I guess i will wait until this is all fixed to begin from the start for the 3rd time :(

I lost all my progress so far. Really great! :banghead:

Can you pleople please confirm if the regular saves work? I'm not inclined to find out that it doesn't in the hard way...

I have found one work-around that has become convenient - using console to save.

If you hit ~ and type:

save "Primm 4"

That will create a save game with the Primm 4 name. Then whenever I need to save I just hit ~ again, hit up-arrow (repeats last command), hit delete key, type 5 (or whatever numeration) and hit return - done.

I'm faster at this now than saving through the menu, and I get to customize my save game names. Normal saves seem to work, but I have not yet lost a console save game.

I will Not allow my admiration for Bethesda/Obsidian to be tarnished by this, even Oblivion had a horrible launch day and its now considered one of the best games of all time. I'm frustrated though, I had higher hopes.

Cheers
