New Patch Worse Than Ever

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:38 am

Has anyone else seen major issues with this new patch.

Everytime I try to do the following it crashes.

Purchase/Sell to the Vender's (any) it locks up almost every time I do this without warning.
Sometimes locks up the game when I kill creatures.
Sometimes when trying to search humanoid's (mutants, humans, ghouls) it will lock up as it tries to bring up the loot screen.
Fast Travel is a big issue, it will go through the load screen and start to load graphics then just lock up.

I have no idea why any of this is happening but I really can no longer play, I was trying to break the 1,000,000 cap's mark before the new content and since this patch I have been able to play for no more than 5 minutes at a time without something causing it to lock up.

I am hoping others will post here with their own freezing issues since the new patch, input on how to help or whatnot. I will also be trying to send a support ticket in for this one.

Even with the 'fixing patch' to correct the issues that the recent patch gave, I too am having freezing issues.
I was thinking I may get the DLC Dead Money and the ones coming out but at this rate, I will not waste money on a game that freezes up so much.
Love Bethesda's games but this is just unacceptable for FNV to freeze so often. It's unplayable.

Sad to say even though I have been overly excited at the announcement of the new DLC over the next few month's if I am unable to play then why purchase it. Seriously it's becoming so bad that I can't even overlook the fact i can't sell... I tried to hoard my items in Novac and every-time I access my storage box's I lock up. I can't even hoard the weapon's even after repairing them.

How abouts we try something new. I suggest you read a bit here in the 360 tech sub-forum and research problems that others have experienced concerning freezing. Then you read advice given to them and try different methods of fixing your similar issues before you come in ranting and raving just to blow steam like a child throwing a tantrum.

Take this for example. Did you know that if you hit a bugged/bad script trigger, before downloading the patch, that the patch will in fact not fix it?

-"Why?" you ask.
Well, it's because the bad/bugged trigger was already hit and activated, thus the game will be running on that bad script. No amount of "patches" will ever fix an already tripped scripting event. It can't. It can even cause that bad script to go into berserk mode and cause your bugged playthru to act out even worse. I came into a similar issue you're having. I thought it thru and came to this conclusion. I deleted every save, every file, every dlc, and even the game itself from my hard-drive. I cleared the cache and re-installed everything in order it was received. I have played a new run for 47hours and 28 minutes since then (once I played for nearly 9 hours straight) and have not a single hang up yet.

If you came in and simply read some of the other threads before getting all foamed up and frothing over your keyboard, you would have seen posts such as this one. You could have followed the advice given and the experiences others had success in.

I wasn't trying to rant or rave in any manner. I am just annoyed and was trying to post to relieve some stress while reading through other posts and such, I still have only found minor things, and yes i could re-download everything which I have read bits and pieces about this helping but nothing in a more long term form.

My real issues is that if I had these triggered before the last patch why didn't they effect me then. This is only been happening since the last patch, and because of the upcoming new's I'd already started over. This makes I think 11 time's I have started a new persona and played through each time with variants on weapons and skills. *shrugs*

Not that I really mind as long as it's all fixed in the end, I've already plans on starting a new persona for each new DLC and playing through everything even the other DLC's before getting to the new one.

Minor script bugs can become worse after patching because the new patch keeps trying to use the new script when the old one is what's activated. A bad trigger, once hit and saved over, will remain a problem if not become worse after being fixed. Quest triggers are notorious for this.

And yes, I agree, this has been a thoroughly aggravating experience dealing with this plethora of bugs, glitches, and "Go F@!* Yourself" scripting errors. I do though believe this latest patch, after deleting every file (saves included) and re-installing it from scratch, has turned this game around on it's heels and has New Vegas running at Olympic levels beyond what it was mere months ago.

So, I'm to delete everything including the saves that include dozens of hours of gameplay to fix an issue that can't be resolved by a patch by the developer?

Sorry, but for a typical customer and xbox user, I have less experience than a small sum who know about new and old scripts and how they are activated. The idea of patches is to fix issues that can't be resolved by the player. And this in my opinion (freezing) is something that needs to be resolved by the developers themselves. And not have the consumer sacrifice their saves (far too many hours of my life) as a work around for something that should be remedied by those who can.

That is not the point, none of us should have to deal with this, we shouldn't have to "clear cache", "delete update and re-download" or anything like that, a patch is suppose to fix problems, not create problems that we need to find work arounds for to fix. It's the Dev's job to make sure none if this crap happens, not ours, this isn't the PC version where you have mods that can conflict with updates, there is no excuse for this on the Xbox 360, a proprietary platform...

Well, you guys can complain about it all you want. The fact remains that a patch can not undo an already activated trigger. Period. You can stomp your feet, flail your arms, and huff all that you please to. To get the most from a patch, you will have to start over. This is true for ALL sandbox RPG's where choice creates consequence.

YES, it CAN, that's what patches are suppose to do, fix things that are broken in the game, when a script is bugged in a save file (Which it pulls from the script in the game files), the Dev's can find that broken string in the glitched script and fix it, the problem is, there are so many variables involved it's hard to find and fix it, but that's still no excuse, this stuff still shouldn't have happened.

That is a horrible anology. The technical flaws of a game that should be routed out by the developers is quite different than the choices I make in a game. There is nothing on my side technically that I chose that led to the issue of freezing. It's a consequence that none of us should have to endure to enjoy a game that we have rightfully bought and yet cannot play.

*sigh*

No, it obviously has not been solved if a number of people are receiving the same issue and report it to the boards. And what are we to use? Delete everything we have done in the game to fix an issue that the developers should be working on?

Look at it this way - how many people who have purchased the game don't want to or have the time to attend these forums to figure out the cause? For whatever percentage of consumers that have the game that don't do this are completely unaware
to any 'fix' that they themselves can attempt. It is patches that fix these issues. Plain and simple.

The scripting issues have been largely fixed. If you start over, or from a save prior to the issue, then that scripting bug will NOT happen again. But if you play on a save that already has that bug then there is no level of patching or fixing that will fix it. THE BAD SCRIPTING HAS ALREADY ACTIVATED AND YOUR GAMING EXPERIENCE WILL CONTINUE TO BE EFFECTED. I'm really not understanding what is so gorram hard to understand about this.

Once again, if you start over these issues will not come up again. THEY ARE FIXED FOR FUTURE RUNS.

Plain and Simple.

If you expect something different, then you will be holding your breath for a very long time. For there is no amount of patching that will solve a scripting error that's already been hit and saved over. I'm not saying that it is right or fair. It is the way it is. This is how programming and script writing and patching works.

And @ evilwondertwin : The incredibly complex coding that goes into games such as this, that allow choice and consequence (from moving an object to killing an NPC and the effect that it has on future quests and dialogue) is heavily effected on how the player interacts with the game world. No, it is not the player's fault that the script bugged out. It is the Developer's and the Publisher's fault. But it is the way it is. Start over and the scripting issues will not come up for they HAVE been FIXED. Or you can continue to attempt your currently bugged play thru and continue to [censored], whine, and moan about problems.

You have been given advice on what the smoothest course of action is for dealing with your situation.

You STILL don't get it, I know how this game works, I make mods for the PC version, and I have messed with the 360 SDK, there is NO issue that should not be fixable via a patch, NOTHING, you're defending Bethesda / Obsidian as if you're on their payroll, it's stupid, you can keep going on about the best way to make the game smooth, but that's NOT the point, we should not have to find work arounds for any of these issues, if you're happy with having to use work arounds to make a game on a proprietary system work, fine, that's your prerogative, don't bash other people for it when they have a right to be pissed off, they paid money for something that continues to be broken.

Here's some advice for you, if you don't like reading about people complaining, DON'T click on the thread, that's what this forum is for, Bugs and issues....

I did too, but my game runs very well. No freezes, no more lag issues and horrible framerates on strip ot hoover damn etc. Generally just runs like different game for me now. Not trying to piss off people with problems. Just realizing (again) how this game apparently is truely original experience for each and everyone.

Same here. I put the game away for months and started again recently with new character after the latest patch, and no crashes. Not like it's running perfectly since the "throw arms above head" with rifles and pistols too still appear. But the main thing for me was the fixing of loading times. Can play over an hour+ now without having area loading times increased to minutes. For me the patch worked. (I have Dead Money DLC).

Hmh.. Now finally after 40h+ game play my saves won't suddenly load. Just get stuck in the "loading" screen. So I have to go back on my word and say the patch did not work for me after all. Loading times were much shorter, some quests that crashed the game previously did work after the patch... but not much good when I cannot load my game. Oh well, back to the shelf then. Not getting any further DLC's before the game itself is fixed either, plenty of time for that by now...
