Interview with Josh Sawyer

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:06 pm

Heres the way I see it, it may not contain direct spoilers however it is an interview. Interviews contain spoilers in most cases. I'm under the impression that this forum is meant for speculations and the other is for interviews, spoilers, cheats and such. Thats my outlook.

My rule of thumb for spoilers is content that actually reveals specific details about the game's story, characters, quests, etc. My reasoning being that if all interviews went to the Spoilers forum, then it would be more difficult to discern between what actually might contain a "real" spoiler, and what's just an interview talking about more general things. (I, at least,) wouldn't want to have to go to the Spoilers forum every time I wanted to see if something new had been revealed, but still didn't want to to know too much about the game's plot and quests.

The interview this thread refers to just contains general gameplay information and such. He doesn't go into specifics about quests or anything like that. So I figure it can stay where it is for the time being.

That sounds good. I was just making sure. =]

I don't think things like "the level cap is 30" is considered a spoiler, more along the lines of --> Character "x" dies during part "y" of the stoy. that kind of thing that someone would not want to know, but perks and traits and stuff don't ruin any "omg" moments.

Who doesn't listen to every conversation and read all of the notes/logs?

I do if I have already been through that part. Sometimes I still read it. I like to read.

I like the part about 75 + hours of game play from Josh Sawyer. Remember he may be reading/listioning to everything for quality control, but since he knows everything about the game, (or nearly so), it would still take him less time for a play through then any of us. I'm thinking about 100 hours or more per play through for us. Then after several runs, the time may drop, or maybe not, depending if you find the time to do more stuff.

Also the fact that the Geck will be ready when the game ships on the 19th, means some of the better mods, (like Darnfied UI), will be out alot sooner. I like playing the first run moddless, but there are very good graphic mods that make things like the pipboy easier to read and more useful.

Woah. You became a mod? Awesome. Congrats.

Anyway, this interview is nice. Not too much more detail I didn't already know, but it's nice.

How "canon" is New Vegas? Everything in Fallout: New Vegas can be considered canon until retconned. :)

Well looks like someone saw the question I asked a couple days ago

Wasn't sure whether I should make a new thread for it or something, but the fifth developer diary was released today (on MSN for some strange reason?).

Gotta' give thanks to the WorstUsernameEver for posting it on NMA, and then one of their members finding a better quality video: http://video.uk.msn.com/watch/video/fallout-new-vegas-dev-diary-5-the-strip/2t1j6o23

I was pleased to read this interview, it fills me with confidence. To find out that the basic mechanics of the same will remain the same as in Fallout 3 is a good thing. It works well as it is, I'm used to it, and there's little point in changing something that works fine just for the sake of it. Of course, a few extra features is always nice, like hardcoe mode and the companion wheel, for example. But its not the most important thing.

If New Vegas was no more than a load more extra quests, places to discover, companions to meet, then I'd be perfectly happy with just that. :)

I like that the G.E.C.K. has a setting for the perk rate.
