Dev Diary #5

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 5:31 am

I've seen the photo, it doesn't mean thats what the armor will be called in your Pip-Boy or anything. As I said before, they don't use specific labels in-game. For example the R91 is just the Assault Rifle.

I didn't know we were talking about what the armor would be called in your Pip-Boy. I was just saying that the armor's official name is 'H3RM35'.

It probably does, but it still reminds me of little kids on Halo. And you mean official as in the in-game name? If so, I don't think so because they usaully use general terms, maybe NCR Ranger Coat

It makes me think more of oldschool PC FPS player. Or...just people on the internet in general now, hah.

And I meant "official" as in the name the armor was given pre-war by the people designing it. I'd actually prefer it if it was called something like "H3RM35 Combat Armor" or some-such than something like "NCR Ranger Armor."

This video can now be found on Youtube, for those of you that had trouble viewing it.

It looks pretty awesome as usual. I love the new shots of the Gomorrah, it looks kinda like a "Sands" or "Sahara" type of theme to me.

I couldn't stand 1337 speak as an ingame term in any game.

It's not 'leet' speak. The armor is actually named; 'H' 'Three' 'R' 'M' 'Three' 'Five'. When the inventors manufactured it, they weren't thinking; "We should totally name this armor; 'Hermes' in leet speak. That'd be sweeeeet." The letters and number most likely have a deeper meaning to them. People call it 'HERMES' just because when it was named, it worked out in such a way where it could be called that, while still maintaining its meaning.

Hmm, maybe breaking it up with hyphens or something. Like H3-RM35 Combat Armor.

H3RM35 sounds like it would stand for something anyway, instead of just being a cool name someone thought of that doesn't have a deeper meaning.

Yes, but the Devs obviously meant it to turn out that way, Poseidon Energy, Apollo's Laser Pistol... etc.

Yeah, I know. I was just saying that it's not perceived as 'leet' speak in the Fallout Universe.

Josh is typing something up, and if it's about H3RM35/HERMES, we're about to get an official statement.

Edit: Aww, he stopped typing.
