Also, the issues with Steam have been covered, so there is no need to reiterate. This is about installing the physical disk version of the game without the internet, which is necessary in my situation.

I just wanted to update you guys. I contacted Bethesda, and some other companies, and they all confirmed my worst fears-- that it is indeed required, and that there is not anything that can be done about it atm, and there is not any immediate plans to change the system. I'll have to either download it illegally (which I am not considering) or wait until they take off the Steam DRM requirement in order to play. But, atm, since I do not agree with the activation system, I cannot play and I had to refund the game. Newegg was very understanding, and promptly issued an RMA with free return shipping, because the requirement was not (at the time) listed on their site. They thanked me for letting them know, and said they would be sure to add that so as to avoid any issues with future customers.

I have emailed Bethesda regarding whole issue, and I'll update with their response once I receive one (probably the next day or two).

So, unfortunately, at least for now, I will not be able to play the game. If there are any changes or news, I'll update again. Thanks to all here, even though we weren't able to find a solution.

When they remove the Steam online activation requirement, I'll buy the game again. And I'm looking forward to it.

It's been known for MONTHS that this game required Steam activation. It's been known for years that the only way to activate games on Steam was via the Internet. It's also been known for years that you simply just need to activate the product and then you can put your game into offline mode and never be bothered to reconnect to Steam ever again by opting for starting it in Offline mode. Worse comes to worse, after installing the game, you can completely bypass Steam with cracks if you really wanted to (I don't endorse it). So stop with the QQ'ing, we all know you hate Steam for absolutely inane reasons.

You only need to be online briefly to activate through steam. Activation takes less than 30 seconds, which then permantly ties the game to your account.


If you are able to get online to post this, or log into your account at Newegg, In the time it took to do that you could have activated the game.
Once the initial activation is done through STEAM, it never needs to be online again to play. (Except to download patches obviously)

All of this was pointed out to the OP, in his original thread, and he mostly ignored that key fact.

He said he DOES NOT AGREE WITH THE ACTIVATION METHOD so he chose to return it. He is not [censored]ing, he was just informing others. Dont take it so personal as a personal attack.

He is not like a lot of people who come on here and [censored] and expect steam or bethesda or obsidian to change it so they are happy. He anolyzed teh situation, made a decision, and carried out that decision. He did/does not need anyone to solve his problems for him, as they are already solved . What he was doing was letting everyone know that there is no workaround to teh current system.

I know, all you guys who spend 23 hours a day on the forums and identify yourselves by your virtual persona, you already know steam is needed. There are, however, more people who buy teh game who dont come to this forum than do.

Websites, Publications, Forums, etc, etc have all known about this activation for quite some time. It's not our fault that the TC did not perform some basic research before jumping the gun.

Wow, you people are really harsh....shouldn't assume that everyone and their granny will know about the DRM requirements when that info. isn't provided on store pages. I do find it ridiculous that the CD version of games are still packed with Steam DRM, just like I find it ridiculous when packed with GFW DRM. To the OP: unfortunately I doubt it'll change. There are too many people that don't have to deal with the inconveniences of not having net access for it to matter to them.
