People with launcher crashes - please read

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:30 am

In one of the numerous launcher crash threads i posted a possible fix that worked for me, but it was promptly ignored.

Could any of you please test this out and see if it works for you? Simply set both of the exe files in the new vegas folder to XP SP3 compatibility mode

Thanks,
Peter

I thought that Steam didn't like us mucking around with the exe files, but I'll try that because I have to launch it a half-dozen times before it decides to let me play.

Nope, Steam doesn't mind.

(bump hoping for reports of great success)

Read my last post of the following thread, should fix the "Start-Problem" without taking the advantage of going back to DirectX9 ^^ LULZ

I tried it, but then I couldn't use a mod that replaces the Pipboy with a hand-held version. I'm guessing it's because it couldn't read the bsa file. I'll stick with launcher issues if it means I can keep my PDA. Maybe I should try that 4G patch...

Hi Jac,

all of my results are based on fresh installations (including updates), so im happy about to play, but there is no guarantee for installations with mods or other things...

i would imagine that the launcher includes all those mod-files, so, try to include this mods on a other way...

i dont know what file exactly include the mods, but try your "documents/games" - folder and search the Fallout.ini or FalloutPrefs.ini maybe you can solve the problem manually, but i dont try it, im happy about my fallout runs ONTIME (without launcher and mods but it runs lulz)

Your "solution" is not for the same problem, LULZ ^^

So tell me, for what problem is your "solution"?

* i tried your "solution", (set both of the exe files in Fallout-Folder to win xp sp3 comp.-mode) then my fallout only runs in directx9, thats not what i want!

From what i could gather from your thread, you're only bypassing the steam launcher for the game, not the actual game launcher itself.

My fix is for when the orange window with the NCR ranger and Play button in it crash. You can't circumvent that by going straight to the other exe, as it will just go to the launcher regardless.

Why does it matter? It's not like NV has DX10 effects in it. Or does it?

Ok, so it is for the SAME problem, but there isnt any Steamlauncher, READ threads plz -> post from jasper1979:
The launcher you see is really the fallout new vegas launcher nothing to do with steam.

The launcher u mean:
My fix is for when the orange window with the NCR ranger and Play button in it crash. You can't circumvent that by going straight to the other exe, as it will just go to the launcher regardless.

So, i can circumvent the launcher! Because my "Ranger with Playbutton-Window" didnt popup, but you have to start steam before starting the FalloutNV.exe in "fallout new vegas" folder!
If you do so, the only problem are the mods, because "The Ranger Window with Playbutton" integrate the mods, but this is an other problem who is solved i think!

About (fallout) supporting DX11: so you are right, there is not much text about it, but i found a german driver-Release-Note who says:

Neu bei Version 260.99

* Leistungssteigerungen gegenüber den v260.89-Treibern in folgenden PC-Spielen: Civilization V (SLI), Fallout 3, Final Fantasy XIV und F1 2010 (DX11).

means: Fallout 3 is supporting dx11, if new vegas does'nt support it, it is a big FAIL of devs, but i didnt think so, because the hardware-specifications of F3 and F3 NV are exact the same!

Heres the link, but it is in german, i dont find any other, sry: http://www.nvidia.de/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-260.99-whql-driver-de.html

PLZ keep in mind, the driver spec is an old one, so... the newest one is 265.** and if u dont see any differnce of graphic after setting the compatibility mode to xp sp3, your g-card did not support it!

Have a nice, busy day :)

Wrong, very wrong.

Translated that section reads...

?Performance improvements to the v260. 89 drivers in the following games: civilization V (SLI), Fallout 3, final fantasy XIV and F1 2010 (DX11).

What it actually means is that all four games have performance improvements. Civilization V gets an SLI improvment, F1 2010 an improvement under DX11 and FO3 and FFXIV general improvements.

Fallout 3 has NO DX10 or DX11 features so there is no reason for DX11 to be supported. Furthermore it was released before DX11 was even released so why would it support it?

Having seen the 'quality' of your help posts and knowing that a few days ago you couldn't read the game perhaps you should take a step back from posting until you can post legitimate helpful posts that are relevant.

I tried that when I was testing this, but it didn't work. It might work for mods that don't require changing the FalloutPrefs.ini file, but in my experience, it won't work with mods that do.
