New info on Ulysess/Courier relationship!.

Agreed.

It appears that the Courier did have a back story that was cut along with Ulysses; Avellone said it was very difficult to remove Ulysses because he was a large aspect of the game.
Traditionally, Fallout PCs have a fairly detailed back story; New Vegas was the exception, but it's starting to look like it was a consequence of time and planning, rather than a deliberate choice.
It svcks for RPers, true.

Yeah, they had general backstory (born in Vault, tribesman, etc) but they didn't force you into, say, a specific sixual orientation or personality type.

The idea that the relationship they had was sixual is clearly absurd, however, as evidenced by the existence of the Lady Killer perk...

I'm sorry, but I am pretty confident that this is a crock of B.S. Not only would it absolutely ruin the backstories that some people have made for their character, but it is just a bad concept and this "source" is like "so this guy I know saw this thing and...". It is like the "character returning from Fallout 3" rumor. It really isn't credible.

Yeah. I remember an interview with Obsidian before release that they intentionally left the Courier's backstory ambiguous in order to let players come up with their own backstory.

Now we find that Ulysses is allegedly the courier's lover? But what if I didn't take Confirmed Bachelor? Or what if I'm a female character with Cherez le Femme?

This sounds like an uninformed rumor to me.

Now, I could definitely buy that the Nash conversation and the canyon wreckage are foreshadowing for a DLC, much like Dog and Christine's ending in DM are (complete with a challenge for hearing where your travels might take you...), but I don't think it's going to be something as limiting as what these guys think.

(unless you are roleplaying that your Fallout 3 character and New Vegas character are the same).

Even then, you could just leave it ambiguous and say Ulysses and the Courier met earlier, while on the road to the Mojave. Mind, "oh hai, my guy from FO3 is the courier from NV" is a pretty silly premise to begin with.

Well first off , him being referred to as male means nothing as when describing a genderless object/person/item he is used naturally but I dunno bout the card you got me there

I guess that's possible.. Isn't there also a picture of him on Wiki of a male character? I honestly don't remember.. If female though it still would be a kick in the butt for RP and that you'd have to fight your ex-lover..

Yes, but that was concept art.

I guarantee everyone in this thread that there is absolutely zero chance of the Courier and Ulysses having had a (gay or otherwise) sixual relationship.

Whoever that source was clearly saw "relationship" and forgot it doesn't automatically have a romantic subtext attached to it.

you do realise that the developers said that when they pulled "Ulysses," they ended up messing up a lot of the story hooks they had in the game. they also hinted that they originaly planed on Ulysses being "the other team" in this game. they also left a lot of other dangling hooks and hints, psoibly due to changing some of there basic premises during development

theres a hook pointing to the courior being somehow

Related to Vault 11, or at least Decended from a Vualt. (perhaps Vault 24)

I wouldn't doubt it if the Courier had some form of a relationship (Non sixual) with Ulysess in the past. What happened and why Ulysess canceled on the delivery is still up in the air.

That makes sense. Doc Mitchell just handing him a Pipboy seemed awfully contrived. I understood it, sure -- it's the game menu and you have to have it. But it strained credibility.
Who knows? Maybe it was planned that way from the start. Another Vault origin would have been contrived, as well.
