Bugs and bugs and more bugs

Post » Tue Feb 22, 2011 10:09 am

Alright, well I am playing the game on very hard + hardcoe right off the bat so I can just bite the bullet and now prance around like king of the wastes in super easy mode, but so far I have run into numerious bugs that have made it entirely unable to complete quests without the console, weird bugs that are an inconvience, a few abo[censored]e game breaking bugs, and even a couple odd humerious bugs. So here is my list which I am sure I will be adding to more the further I get in the game if I dont have to keep loading yesterday's saved game because of unfortunate game stopping bugs.

1. I'm sure this has to be a bug, but why oh why am I getting negative karma when I steal from raiders, dead powder gangers? I get good karma for killing the guy, but bad karma if I take his stuff? Karma is being a bit of a jerk here I think. The name of the wasteland is survival, no one 'alive' is around for a mile or so, so why do I get a karma hits for taking this guys purified water, who is now dead and no longer needs water?

2. The invincable ghoul syndrome, I ran into this little bug over in Camplight, the ghoul has learned how to phase shift out of reality and bullets pass right through him, he is mostly rooted to the ground and can occasional, displace himself and move about 10 feet from time to time and hit you if you are within melee range but again you can not shot him, even in vats the bullet goes right through him as if he wasn't there, This also screwed up a quest making an item he carries unable to be obtained without the use of the console to /kill him, and then you lose the achievements cause its "Cheating"

3. a minor bug with the grey ranger hat clipping in the front on the left and right showing the players hair in two small spots, not a huge bug but still pretty annoying and one that should of been noticed and fixed before released.

4. The permenant club foot. Some reason after I got into a fight with some golden geckos, I got all patched up and my character was still limping around like his foot was missing or something, at first I thought Oh No that Gecko bite off my foot and now i'm a permenant cripple, but I had no negative effect or perk to go with it, and after a search on the forums, and reloading an autosave I began to walk normal so it must be a bug, Lucky for those geckos, I was ready to kill every single one of them out of revenge for my foot.

5. Trait Wild Wasteland, this really shouldn't be a trait you pick at the begining of the game, it should just be a game option and not force the player to choose it over other trais just to see some of the funny easter eggs in the game, it hasn't changed or altered the game in any way like one of the other traits would have.

6. Nipton, while exploring this lovely and welcoming city with its happy and open armed people, (the legion). I proceeded to explore houses before talking with the nice people, upon entering a small house on the nw corner and trying on an ncr outfit inside the house, then taking it off before leaving the house, I somehow became an enemy of the legion even though I was not wearing ncr armor, so somehow the effect was still on me even after removing the armor and leaving the house. This broke the whole quest chain for the Legion and required loading an older saved game to fix.

7. repeative crashing while trying to add a scope or extended magazine to a varmit rifle, it let me add the silencer no problem, but everytime I tried adding either of the other two it would crash me out to desktop and say the game has experienced an error and needed to close, I tried selling the rifle, buying it back, tried on another rifle. put the silencer on one rifle, fixed it with another rifle then tried putting the scope and magazine on that rifle, just kept crashing to desktop. Not sure why but some reason it finally let me add all three to the rifle all happy go lucky. I have added them before with no problems, this time was just a little odd. about 8 or 9 crashes in total trying to get it to work.

8. caravan cards, Not sure if this is broken or just lacking an explination of how to use them. ONE time, just one time it let me use singular cards I had in my inventory into my deck, I am not sure how. but when I stopped playing the card game and checked my inventory I no longer had the individual cards spamming my inventory and when I went back into the card game they were still there in my deck, Now before and since that one time, they just sit in my inventory and refuse to be acknowledged as part of my deck at all. So maybe them being added to my deck was the bug.

9. This is in my opinon a bug but all the alchohal in the game, whiskey, vodka, scotch adds thirst, and makes you more thirsty. Sure in the long run it can make you more thirsty drinking a beer on a hot day, but it also quenches you're thirst at the time being. So perhaps whiskey should be H20 -31, instead of +31, you still get the +1 to cha and str and -1 to int, but its still contains a good amount of water and drinking it shouldn't immedietly make you more thirsty.
When I drink a beer I dont go Oh god I am so thirsty now I need some water, it quenches my thirst at the time, some people seem to be able to make a living off drinking hard liquor why can't my character? Perhaps it can just do -20 to h20 while norml water does -65. that seems fair to me. Along with alchohal things like nuka-cola and other non water drinks ADD to h20. nukacola adds 10, so in the grand scheme of drinking nuka cola is you drink so much it absorb all the water in your body till you prune up like a dried husk and fall over dead? Not very realistic for a game that set out to be realistic, everything else on very hard+hardcoe as been pretty good.

10. The skill required for basic cooking items, It shouldn't take 25 to 30 skill in survival to grill a slab of dog or gecko over a fire, thats about all I have to say about that. cave-men figured out how to burn flesh before eating it before thier was even the concept of toilet paper. So 15 survival skill means I'm too stupid to know how to burn dog meat on an open fire, but somehow i'm smart enough to cut it off the dog I shot and skin it for a pelt.

I'll be adding more as I find them.

wow not even like half of those are bugs, they are just straight up complaints. And I am pretty sure mods will fix close to if not all of those

Five of your eleven 'bugs' are your own personal opinions on how you think the game should work, and not actually flaws with the game itself. While i applaud your effort to compile a list of glitches, you undermine your efforts by trying to argue with Obsidian about how they didn't make the game like how you think it should have been made.

Oh sorry, I didn't put that list up there for you, cause I dont really care what you think, I was putting it up so someone that WORKS here can read it, and yes more then half of those are actual bugs, and I didn't even list all the npcs that got stuck under boulders, houses, inside buildings on the exterior map. I love the game, just want them to fix some of these quest breaking bugs so I can play it without having to reload save games till it doesn't bug out.

Your replies of, Your just complaining, or blahblah you sound like 12 year old kids looking for someone to throw poo at, Stop it, it makes you look stupid. I'm trying to contribute to the development team by pointing out things I think are errors. You are just pissing and throwing verbial poop around on the forums. This is what they do in play testing, or should of done, write down stuff that didn't seem right. So Please continue, my good sir..

Yeah the first one you mention is odd.

Idk about the second one haven't come across that yet.

Third one ??

four um okay.

five...hmmm i did avoid this one so perhaps this was a good call. idk

six, ah unfortunate.

seven, hmmm that one should be looked at.

eight, yep i find the cards annoying too think i'll dump them at my motel or something, caravan is a weird game to add.

nine...hmmm i didn't use alcohol that much really but if what you describe is correct then i think they should sort that too.

ten, heh a minor grievance to myself not much cash in pelts anyways. But would be nice if that was fiddled with.

And calm down dude less aggro with strangers saves time and effort.

I presume from the comments about water you played on hardcoe mode, i purposely avoided hardcoe mode because i was afraid of bugs that could ruin the game. but you know maybe normal might be a nice break for ya? less messing around with water/sleep/food. sure it's less realistic but it's just a game.

1) Stealing is stealing.
2) Sounds like a bug but I wouldn't know. I haven't been there.
3) Sounds like a graphic bug
4) Sounds like a bug but I wouldn't know. I haven't been there.
5) This isn't a bug.
6) Sounds like a bug if you took the armor off before they saw you.
7) Sounds like a bug
8) Not sure, I haven't played caravan yet.
9) Wow, do you even know what a bug is? And honestly, do you really think people live off of alcohol in RL without getting hydrated from non-alcoholic fluids??? Once the alcohol gets processed through your system, it dehydrates you. Sure, you might not be thirsty right then and there but it does dehydrate you. Once you are old enough to really drink, perhaps you will understand. Ask mommy and daddy about it.
10) Game mechanic. Sorry that you don't like it.

Seriously I dont give two craps if you read this, so why bother posting? Its not for you, its for the people that work on the game cause they do read the boards.

Couple more bugs, the red beret Boone gives you. I put it in his inventory to hold it and the game overwrite it with the one he was wearing so instead of it being 2 diffrent ones, one worn, one not, or just a (2) next to it, it deleted it through a confusing process of quantum reality.

binoculars dont say (2) next to them either, it only shows the one in the inventory even if you have two.

had a modded 10mm pistol with a silencer on it, and another non-modded 10mm pistol both in premium condition, they also stacked with no numerical indication of how many I had in my inventory, Had to remove the modded one from my inventory so I could sell/drop the non-modded pistol.

caravan cards dont auto update into your deck when you buy them from a vendor, same for ammo box if you buy multiples in a single exchange.
for instance I talk to merchant, I click ammo box 38 special, and buy a quantity of (2), they stay as boxes in my inventory untill I drop them on the ground then pick them up and they turn into actual ammo.
the caravan cards have to be placed in another container, desk, locker ect. closed, reopened then taken out before they will add, seems like much of these related issues are from merchant exchanges bypassing what should be autochecks when stuff is taken an added to the inventory.

and because someones going to read and start posting stupid crap in response like Ohes noes your characters intelligence is too low to figure out how to open the ammo box right away, so please just dont. I'm not posting for verification or reassurance about any of these, some of these are probably products of my system and drivers, and if its not a bug, I dont care.

Reload Extended Lag
I took the rapid reloader perk, and since this bug seems to only affect after reloading it might be connected. for about 10 to 15 seconds after reloading my 357 magnum which has the long barrel and HD cylinder on it, I can't do anything. It wont let me fire it, use vats, or open my pipboy, I can however run around like an idiot unable to use my weapons, kind of defeats the point of rapid reloader... so far its only been doing this for my modded revolver.

Drowning in 16 seconds. Your suppose to be this wasteland hero but you can't hold your breath more then 16 seconds and when that 16 seconds is up. it eats through my 265 hps in about another 3 seconds. This timeframe is actually counter productive to even attempting some underwater areas as it takes more then 16 seconds to swim down and back up. A more feasible time limit would be like 30 or 40 seconds, and not have it nearly instant kills you when the time is up, that drowning damage needs to be downed down to about half.

Private Halford... Hes right around the corner from the exit, when I tell him its clear to the surface and he can leave. For the love of god, WHY does he run DOWN into the cave and stir up all the lakelurkers? Seriously Why? it makes NO sense at all, especially since he's been saying how he doesn't want to face another one of those things ever again, but yet he RUNS right down into the cave to get killed by all of them.
If you kill all the lakelurkers first, before talking to him, you no longer have the option to heal his leg so he can leave when you go back to talk to him. He just yaps about how 'we' cleared them all out and then he just keeps sitting there.

This isn't really a bug but just a complaint about hardcoe mode, why is water and dirty water the Only source to lower H20, and why does all other liquids add so much h20 you have to drink water after drinking it? That doesn't make much sense to me, I dont need to drink a glass a water after i drink a bottle of sprite or something. Most this game uses ideas from the modding community, so why.. do they not have portable sleeping bags? They are litterly lying all over the place in ranger camps and stuff but why can't you just take one and drop it somewhere when you are miles and miles from any bed you can sleep in? I'm pretty sure they had a mod for this in fallout3, this whole hardcoe thing just seems tacked on without much indepth thought from a players perspective, as it is right now its just a huge inconvience and doesn't add any depth to the game more then "oh I got minor dehydratino better drink 2 waters"
They could of probably changed that to You feel thirsty rather then jump straight to OH god You are dehydrated! cause the player can't stop pause and check thier pipboy every 30 feet to check thier fluid and food levels, thats really something you kind of notice without the help of a gadget.

Companions.. in general I assume but i've only had Boone and Cass with me so far and they both do it, so I assume it code based, "EVERYTIME" you snipe something thats out of vats range regardless if you hit it, kill it, or utterly miss they say something which I am assuming if ment to be said if you just fire your weapon in the air or at nothing, such as boones 'Let me aim that for you next time" and cass's "If you can't control it, put it back in the holster"
There should of been a few more lines of code making sure these companions didn't repeat this one-line Over and OVer and Over and OVER again....
Ammendment: It doesn't matter if you are within vats range or not, as long as the npc isn't in combat it assumes you are shooting at the moon regardless if you just killed a glowing ghoul 40 yards away with one shot, they still think you are shooting at clouds and happily annoy.
A simple code check for them to not say something [censored] if your shot does damage to anything, seems like a very small amount of work that would fix this but was overlooked.

More on companions. Asking them to CARRY faction armor. Why do they feel the need to drop it on the ground? Why would ED throw it on the ground? He doesn't even wear armor.. I just want him to CARRY it, oh dear god... :(

Auto Reload. Need an option to turn this off, if i'm in the middle of a fight I would much preffer to switch from my rifle to my revolver and fire 6 more shots then sit thier like a [censored] trying to reload my rifle while I have a perfectly good and fully loaded pistol on my belt.

#9 Uh...yeah in real life alcohol DEHYDRATES you. That is an actual property of alcohol. In fact, the higher the proof (the higher the concentration of alcohol), the more it dehydrates you.

Read above, I Dont Care, it even clearly states in some of my posts some of them are not bugs, some are just short sighted parts of the game that should of been included. So if you are just going to come on here and post little one line sentences then go back to your parents basemant unless you can try to contribute in a helpful way. Thank You.

Whether or not you care is moot, and flaming someone is just as useless. As several people have stated, those are your opinions of issues. If you don't like them, there's actually a good option for it. Get the geck, and mod those things so you're happy. Or go get arwen's RL tweak pack.

Hats clipping is a nif issue, and can be caused by other things as well. There's new things that can be done with hats and hair placement in this version of the engine, meaning with all of the heads/sizes/scales/etc there will be a few that aren't 'perfect'.

6 may or may not be a bug. It's also possible that other actions against the legion you've taken(such as theft), built upto the point where it tipped you over into hostile.

8 there is a bug with the 'add card' scipt that is supposed to add them to your deck. There's a fix for it on newvegasnexus.

9 I've never had booze that didn't make me piss like a lizard trying to defend it's territory. Booze is a diuretic. Whether you like that idea or not, changing how the body flushes a toxin won't change that. Nor will it change that if you're drinking booze on hardcoe, you'll need to drink more water.

10 isn't a bug. But people cinderizing their food happens a lot. I'm sure you're a perfect chef.

I know you're very pleased with yourself on this message board but you are coming off as a complete and total [censored], probably due to the fact that you are a complete and total [censored].

As far as #1, you can have positive or negative karma with the powder gangers so why wouldn't it count? You can be there friends if you want. And when it says karma is lowered, it's only lowered toward that particular faction, it's not a blanket. If you took 3 seconds to look at your karma that would become obvious to you, unless you're a complete and total [censored].

As soon as I finished talking to Jason Bright and accepted his quest, him and his followers suddenly started attacking ED-E. They didn't attack him the whole time he was following me around in thier base, just after I accepted the quest and I want to say more specificly it looked like it was just one of the
regular followers who aggroed him then the others assisted.

PS to you trolls who are trolling me calling me a troll. You can't mod it if you are getting the achievements for doing it cause adding ANY mod other then preorder one negates all achievements, There is a reason someone has game tweak mods and thats because almost every aspect of the game if you dig deep enough feels entirely unfinished. I'll be happy to use some of the nice tweak mods after my first go through every nook and cranny of the desert, but if they are going to add achievements and make you play the half-finished product the way it sits in order to get them, then yes. I think they need to know about ALL the junk they didn't quiet finish when making it.

Uh.. no. Nipton is what I would assume everyones first legion encounter. I never encounted them before going to Nipton, it is like one of the very first quests when you leave goodsprings. so yes it is most defently a bug.

Not a bug. The legion NPC's are active in the same cell, and you're flagging yourself as NCR, which turns them hostile(aka you're flying the NCR flag). Taking it off and trying to pretend lul! I was just tryin' on their armor guys! That doesn't work.

It's also not the first place to run into the legion, just the first place along your path to the strip.
