is there one person that does not want the brotherhood dead?

Which leads one to wonder if Caesar truly feels his method of governance is better than the Republic he's trying to destroy or if he's merely a megalomaniac who holds a stranglehold on the control of the Legion for his own ends?

They're not necessarily mutually exclusive.

in either case, I feel Caesar's objection to technology on the grounds of that it weakened humanity and brought the nuclear holocaust is another example of either ignorance of some aspects of Roman culture or just revisionist history on the part of Caesar. Both the Roman Republic and Imperial Rome dominated the rest of the known world in technology and its application. If he truly wanted to emulate Rome he would be much more accepting of that fact.

But that's a topic for another thread ;)

A good thing for discussing in the Caesar's Legion vs. Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel thread in the other thread.

back on topic, the Brotherhood of Steel is a liability to any faction in question (be in Independent New Vegas, the NCR, Mister House, or the Legion) if the goal is to transform NV into a functioning state. They would constantly be a hinderance to the promulgation of tecnology and could not be bothered to uphold justice or rule of law in the Mojave, especially if it went counter to their beliefs. Looking beyond having their assistance in the final battle, it would seem that the only prudent, long-term, solution in the best interest of New Vegas for the Brotherhood is destroying the Mojave Chapter

Possibly, if the PC is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel its possible that the Brotherhood "harrassing" travelers might actually work out for them as the elimination of energy weapons could go a long way to stabilizing the PC's rule. The Brotherhood might be inclined to allow the PC to "keep" Yes Man if they have the excuse that he's technically under the control of a Brother.

(albeit one who is a complete Wild Card)

Of course, this means the PCs are restricted to monarchy (where their heirs could inherit Yes Man) as opposed to democracy. So yeah, the Mojave Brotherhood is a honking liability that only is beneficial in the context it is an uneasy ally against both NCR and the Legion.

true Caesar could feel that One-Man-Rule is best for the Legion and that, naturally, he is that One Man. But I feel the reasoning is flawed because if he truly did have the Legion's best interests in mind he would plan for it to be eternal and would have codified or otherwise established some sort of succession once he dies

I feel Marcus says it best when he says "Caesar thinks he can change human nature. Most of the Legion is following Caesar, not Caesar's ideals. When he's gone it'll crumble," which is a sad prospect and I feel one of the biggest downfalls of Caesar

That's what you get for filling your nation's populace with nothing more than glorified war dogs.

For a 'dog without a master', Caesars legion seems to be doing pretty well, where I'm at. Goddamnit..

I think that means they must be pretty well organised, if some random courier comes along and slaughters their leader and they still have the comprehension, the intelligence, the will to formulate a strategic attack against the dam......

...And not do much beyond that. Like Marcus said, they follow Caesar, not his ideals. if Caesar dies from either his brain tumor or from the Courier assassinating him, the Legion has maybe a bit under a decade (if that) before the Legion destroys itself without its visionary to guide them. I mean, c'mon, a freakin' berserker is his immediate successor.

Disturbingly, I think Legate Lanius with the proper guidance would probably be smarter than Caesar and Graham both.

I felt bad for AM rifling him to death.

(45b Armor for being able to heft that bad boy!)

Let's put things in perspective here, ok?

The Brotherhood believes that old world technology will be the death of us all once again, correct? And that's why they take it all, to protect others from....themselves.
Now, why not destroy the tech they find? Why are they to be trusted with the weapons? I mean look at Helios one. It can only provide energy or power a weapon, not both at the same time. And what do the Brotherhood opt to do? They go for the weapon. Nevermind that they could keep people from destroying themselves by providing them with a benefit. Nevermind that they could just destroy the building to eliminate all risk entirely. No, they want that big shiny weapon.

Mr. House is right. They're ridiculous, and I'll never understand why so many people are so die-hard about defending them.
