If you complete Still in the Dark McNamara's way you can later forge an alliance with the NCR. Everybody else wants them dead.

Yes, it's just Caesar's Legion and Mister House.

I love Mister House's reasoning.

He's OFFENDED by the Brotherhood as a technocrat.

What does he know he's a cripple kid in a fish tank. BoS is right to take technology. Look where it put Caesars Legion. They got the technology of weapons and now what. They burn towns and take slaves. Not cool..

The only technology that the Legion has that the BOS would be even remotely interested in is the auto-doc in Caesar's tent. And even then, its broken. The BOS are quite frankly, idiots. They think everyone in the surface are a bunch of tribals who'll activate another nuclear holocaust at the slightest press of a button. I honestly don't see why killing them is such a big deal.

I mean, the Brotherhood are a bunch of asshats, but wow! They have power armour! and lasers! and robots! So with all those cool toys, they obviously must be the bestest, coolest faction ever! Nevermind the fact they rig you up with an explosive collar, or massacre a FOTA outpost.

Come on, you don't get a quest called "we are legion" from a guy named "dead sea" with a magic sword as a reward from the BoS

The legion hasn't even mastered the technology of hill defense, and the real Caesar could do that 2100 years ago

I actually love the irony around weapons and the BOS.

Energy weapons are the DEVIL! They're the thing that the BOS exists to get out of the hands of normal people. Yet, their armor is vulnerable to conventional firearms and conventional armor like the Ranger suit is arguably better than their power armor.

In a way, I love the "Bug quest" the most in NV. Think about it.

You come, stepping out of a wasteland filled with 'savages', and you STILL know more about computers than the Brotherhood of Steel does.

some of the followers have it comin. I'd rig you up wih an explosive collar if you came to my secret bunker! Lastly, the brotherhood always needs more guns. Looks like they're downtown just making their own laser rifles.

The Followers have it coming? They're the only group in the wasteland who help people for the sake of helping people. Everyone else has ulterior motives.

Honestly, I just kill them off after I can equip power armour anyway. I don't see what the problem is with killing a bunch of Self Righteous idiots holed up in a bunker thinking they're better than everyone else.

As a general rule, I dont go out of my way to intefere or hate anyone or anything. But if they give me reason to hate them, I'll do so with a merry passion.
As an innocent newbie out sightseeing, I stumble across a devastated burnt out little town, where there's been a horrific massacre and some cruel games played on the survivors. People have been crucified, people have been hobbled horribly so they live but cant run away. The women have been [censored], and kidnapped, and sold into slavery. I alone, am left alive, to tell this horrific tale to others. That's the time when I decided that the Legion, down to every last soldier, must die.

And it was no different with the brotherhood. I had no ill feelings towards them, would have been quite happy to leave them entirely alone for the duration of the game..
Untill the [censored]ers grabbed me, an innocent newbie (I was really low level) and were horrifically rude and abusive to me, and attatched this bloody horrible slave-style collar on me that would explode if I left their stupid little valley.
How dare they?! How dare they start [censored] with me when I was just an innocent peson who stumbled there accidentally and meant them absolutely no harm?
After that, [censored] em, [censored] em all. The brotherhood, they're all dead, simply for messing with me when I had no issues with them.
I tend to say, dont start [censored] you cant finish. And they started [censored] with me totally without reason. And they will pay for that.
I still wear that collar (kindly deactivated by a random NCR guy) as a reminder, whenever I feel myself getting soft or maybe thinking I was in the wrong. That's a reminder to me, of actually what bastards they are and just how despicable they can be.

I'll have to jump on the wagon here. I just finished I Could Make You Care, and as I was listening to Veronica speak with the Elder he tells her something along the lines of, "We cannot allow the technology to fall into their hands," and I couldnt help but think, "It already has you stupid idiots!"

Veronica hits the nail on the head when she says that the Brotherhood has no purpose. Technology is already out there and prolific, and as anyone who's familiar with Spiderman knows that with great power comes great responsibility and here the Brotherhood of Steel is doing not a blessed thing to salvage the Mojave or the post-apocalyptic world around them for the better of humanity

Having said that, I just finished producing a detonation code, so I'm off to shut down the Mojave Chapter. BRB!

What now? The average NCR GI has a factory-built semi-automatic rifle (not some pre-war relic, an actual post-war manufactured rifle). What does the average legionnaire have? A lawnmower blade lashed to a wooden grip and maybe a few spears or maybe a revolver. The Legion rejects almost all technology. What they have in abundance is numbers.

To be fair, in Caesar's case, that may be because of the fact that he doesn't have any real industrial base. Raul points out that the states Caesar ruled were almost completely tribal in nature.

It's actually amazing the Legion is as well armed as it is given this.

I believe Veronica actually says something about that, actually. Something about ordinary people with ordinary weapons, I think. I know my Courier certainly wrecked the BoS paladins that jumped her and that Ranger in Hidden Valley with nothing but a slug-loaded Level-Action Shotgun (Cowboy + Shotgun Surgeon = Who cares about power armor?)

It was actually a sort of cool bit with Operation: Anchorage and Mothership Zeta that BOS paladin armor is sort of the stuff footsoldiers wear at the end of the war, it's not actually legendary super armor.

Thats actually why I consider the T45d to be superior to the T51b. With the firepower available to everyone the extra 5 DT really doesn't matter, while that +2 str from the T45 means melee hits harder, and more supplies can be carried.

truth, by all accounts it would seem all the tribes the Legion formed from and then subsequently absorbed were all at the same low tech level. Perhaps Caesar uses the low tech level not only as a philosophical unifier of the tribes of the Legion or as a method of control to keep some tribes who objected to their assimilation from using advanced technology and "liberating" themselves, thus keeping himself at the top and in control. Which leads one to wonder if Caesar truly feels his method of governance is better than the Republic he's trying to destroy or if he's merely a megalomaniac who holds a stranglehold on the control of the Legion for his own ends?

in either case, I feel Caesar's objection to technology on the grounds of that it weakened humanity and brought the nuclear holocaust is another example of either ignorance of some aspects of Roman culture or just revisionist history on the part of Caesar. Both the Roman Republic and Imperial Rome dominated the rest of the known world in technology and its application. If he truly wanted to emulate Rome he would be much more accepting of that fact.

But that's a topic for another thread ;)

back on topic, the Brotherhood of Steel is a liability to any faction in question (be in Independent New Vegas, the NCR, Mister House, or the Legion) if the goal is to transform NV into a functioning state. They would constantly be a hinderance to the promulgation of tecnology and could not be bothered to uphold justice or rule of law in the Mojave, especially if it went counter to their beliefs. Looking beyond having their assistance in the final battle, it would seem that the only prudent, long-term, solution in the best interest of New Vegas for the Brotherhood is destroying the Mojave Chapter
