Return to store as defective product

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:58 pm

I think Bethesda should bite the bullet on this and release something saying that you can return this game to the store you bought it at, as defective. It's pretty unfair that people that have this game, can't really even play it until these "patches" fix it. I have the save error/corruption glitch right now, and it's effecting pretty much all of my saved games, except for the few I have at lvl 1-5 or so. But my character was at lvl 15 when the glitch screwed me over. It's pretty damn [censored] that you pay full price for a game, and isn't all there. Would you pay full price for a car, when they tell you the wheels will be ordered and given to you at an undetermined date? No, of coarse not! Again, I think Bethesda should bite the bullet on this, and release something to all the retailers saying that the game can be returned for full price as a "defective product"...because, it is.

Technically by law you can do that anyway,
If you buy any faulty product by law the shop must iether replace it or give you a full refund,
its trading standards laws,
if the games not working or is unplayable just return it to the store and tell them you cant play it due to bugs making it constantly crash or making it unable to save or whatever your problem is.

If you have ever played there past games or fallout 3 then you should know that due to the game's size and every little thing in it there will be bugs, lots of them. That's why they put out patches and such. If you don't like the game take it to gamestop or something and trade it in. I'm sure with this being a new game you should get a pretty penny for it. As for who should bite the bullet, your the one who chose to buy the game. A little research and you would have found all the pros and cons of this game (just google "fallout new vegas" and you will see all kinds of stuff on glitches and patches. Another good way to check out a game before buying it is gamespot or ign. Awesome reviews and insider stuff. Its like buying anything, would you buy it based off of an assumption that it is good or look into it? It is an awesome game and if you wish to enjoy it you gotta give it some time for the dev's to come up with some fixes and stuff. Sorry if this doesn't help, I don't want to sound like a @$$ but you know...

Why did you put patches in quotation marks?

Anyway, I see this exact same post with basically every game that's released these days.

Wow, that whole car anology really takes the bug issues out of context. Sadly, you are one of the few unlucky people who got it bad, not everyone game is unplayable, and it only seems like a lot of peoples games are becuase they come on forums and complain, like you are, Most people are just playing the game fine just now.

So take it back.

I can understand being pissed about not bieng able to play your game you just paid a bunch of money for.

I’m not saying whether they actually owe you or not, but you got every right to argue that they do.

In addition to my last reply i think a game company has only ever once agreed to refund thousands of customers due to a really bad game release,
that was Sony Online Entertainment, when they released the Shadows Over Luclin expansion for Everquest, That was when DX9 (c?) was first released and they made the new expansion so it would not run on anything under DX9 (c?), so unless the persons system was DX9 capable they could not use it,
i remember it well the game was down every other day for weaks, 2 or 3 hours a day for patchs back up 1 hour then down again for another hour for an emergency patch to fix the patch, in the end they just refunded everyone who bought the expansion and could no longer play the game which was thousands of people.

That's a poor state that gaming companies have fallen into then. You can release a broken product and just expect everyone to gleefully sit there and stare at their tv, patiently waiting for the game to be fixed, like they should have done before it hit the street. Everyone has a semi-biased opinion of this game because the other games released by this company are actually good, and is one of the reasons I got this one. An established company should know by now, to make sure a game is fully operational BEFORE it's released. I don't mind any of the other glitches, but ones that literally make it so I can't play the freaking game are completely unacceptable by any standard. And no, I don't think I'd should have to research something like "Does this game let you save? Is there a saving or save file corruption glitch for this game?", because as with my car anology: I'd never think to ask a car dealership if the wheels came with the car because, like everyone, you'd expect it to since it's something that is vital to it's operation. I think it's a piss-poor way to make quick money off of fans of your previous work, and follow examples pioneered by something like MICROSOFT and it's OS's. And in a time where good games are getting increasingly hard to find, it sets a bad example to both new and experienced gaming companies.

Last thing is, I haven't tried to return it yet, because it is an opened product, and I'd have to argue/debate on the product being faulty if I wanted all my money back. If unsuccessful, this new game would get probably a $30-$40(maybe) trade-in in store credit.

Heh, ok. Just for argument sake, the anology for that would be Bethesda giving you Fallout 3, while you wait for this game to be fixed.

You cant try it to see if it works if you dont open it so the shop can not use that arguement,
and if they try to argue the fact that its full of bugs and does not work for some people tell them to log into these forums and look at all the threads on it, or tell them to look the game preview websites and stuff that say its the buggiest game of the last decade.

Not trying to..um, what is it called? "Troll?" but, technically speaking, if each person's topic post equals 1 person, and there are a "lot of people" that complain about glitching to the point of unplayability, wouldn't that mean there actually are a lot of people that are having problems, and not just a few?

Eh, mostly because I don't like the word and what it entails. They shouldn't call it a patch or even a fix, it should be called screw up or something like that...ok so out of my head it doesn't seem to make as much sense, but I still stand by it, lol.

lol, I have before for other games, and not just Bethesda's. Stores have their own rights, and unless a product is officially defective or broken, they can't do anything other than a trade in. Sometimes more if you negotiate with a manager...which I really don't want to do...:(

Bye, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Because we absolutely needed another thread full of whining about how you can't play the game. Or didn't save. Or completely ignored that the past two games using thins engine are buggy?

I have over 70 hours played no issues that have been game breaking yet. no broken quests. only one/two crashes.

I paid my monies, and got all my game. Whats the problem? is it, oh I don't know, *gasp* the hardware or platform of choice you are using?

Heck I even went to the midnight launch and found out I can;t play till 12AM PST, three hours later. SO I just took a nap.

This game is totally worth it, and I think most people who are having problems are having hardware problems, and what very few software issues I have found are nothing more than a minor thing at best.

Most people are happily playing, and not whining.

So in essence, what you saying is: since your experience is fine, no bad experiences should ever be mentioned? I'm sorry me and other people are having issues with this "stellar" game, and feel the need to express ourselves. Problems are only fixed if the masses are heard, not the individual. And I honestly don't understand why you dislike my post that this is broken and people should be compensated. Would you still be happy if you had problems? If it is a yes, then you are far more patient than me and others with gameplay issues. Before I wrote this, I was already aware that other people have had perfectly playable runs. And, if the playability of the game depends on the platform you play it on, why would there be multiple to choose from? Unless you're trying to prove my theory on the svckering of fans, which I don't think you are given your righteous stand on this game.

Yeah, I had a Clark W. Griswold explosion of profanity when my 110 hour, 180 location, 10MB file got CORRUPTED by patch 1.01 to the point where it refused to load the Strip from the North Freeside gate and instead black screened of Deathed each time. I had to start over on hardcoe and have just now got back to the Strip for main quests. NEVER let the monorail get blown up.

This thread is going downhill at a rapid pace and I smelled the smoke from the flames.

OP, contact Tech support with your problems or post what problems you are having in the H&S section of this forum to seek help. Also keep in mind that patches are on the way.

Everyone else, stop with the flames already, some folks are having problems and want to express them and it's ok to do so. I'm just glad I'm not one that is having so much trouble with the game.
