How do I stay evil?

I'm on my second New Vegas playthrough and this time I want to play an evil character. The trouble is that I occasionally get good karma from killing raiders and fiends that attack me. I already know that I could simply run into an innocent town and slaughter everybody in sight but I don't want to do that - I like having as many merchants, doctors, quest givers, and caravan players available to me as possible. That doesn't mean that I won't kill any innocents, it's just that I don't know where I can kill innocents without turning the rest of the town or faction hostile to me. Also, is there a place with an infininte amount of innocent people who regenerate every few days? I don't want to make everywhere a ghost town, either.

I also know that I could just steal everything not bolted to the floor but that gets tedious after a while because I think the karma loss is minimal, and I also think it's kind of ridiculous to lift junk off of someone just for the sake of karma loss, then turn right around and put everything back where it was because I looted a bunch of stuff I don't want in the first place (like toy cars and tin cans).

Truly evil people, like the BTK killer, did a lot of community service to hide their destructive desires..... I think they probably had positive karma in their world.

It is much quicker to lower your karma by stealing items of great value. Stealing stuff from the Silver Rush or from one of the Boomers hangars would easily do the trick.

I usually can stay bad just by doing legion quests and killing ncr, I dont steal much, usually only components for weapon repair kits.

Oh, and being mean to people ofc.

I'm also having this character work for the Legion, but more as a low-key spy than a blatant soldier killing everything NCR-related in sight. Again: I don't want to turn any faction hostile to me, and if I kill NCR's troops and get caught, roughly about 1/3rd of all communities in the game are going to turn hostile on me. Then I will have that many less places to sell my loot, buy ammo, and play caravan.

Ah, I didn't realize that karma loss was proportionate to the value of items stolen. I thought it was all a low "flat rate" of loss (same karma loss for stealing a tin can as stealing a Missile Launcher). I guess it's time to quietly knock over all the casinos. Thanks!

I think you will enjoy the game more if you stop trying to focus on karma and just do what you think an evil person would.

Maybe those are some of perks of being "evil". Its hard trying to make everyone like you.

I've already played and finished the game as force of frontier justice. Now I want to see some of those nifty evil titles, and see if I get any different reactions from NPCs. :goodjob:

I massacred Camp McCarren... and received no Karmic penalty. I'm actually having trouble staying evil.
