Do you use the Wild Wasteland trait?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:08 am

I love it, but then I've always been in favour of games referencing pop culture and memes, I always feel when I 'get' a reference that I've been included in a long-running "in joke". I like that and it engages me with the game on a different level. Having it optional is a good idea though, not everyone likes that sort of thing!

The official game guide says that there are really only 2 useful traits (four eyes and good natured). If you want some nice easter eggs, yeah, this one is ok.

i wouldn't pick it. i sort of spoiled it for myself by looking at a few (and then all) of the situations it changes on the fallout wikia page. basically, half of the references i didn' t even get and the other half didn't seem the least bit interesting or funny (some skeleton in a fridge with a hat? woopy-do) so i choose not to take it at all. definitely like the less serious tone of new vegas tho, some funny shiznit in this game, much more relaxed, more fallout 2 than Fo:3 ever was.

Can you replenish Alien Power Cells? If not, then you're better off without it so you instead get the YCS/186 encounter.

Nope, next to the other traits, its not worth it. Also, why are there no random encounters anymore? Everything is at set locations with set events.

I regret it... a lot. Recently I've been levelling my EW to find that the best energy weapon and one of the best weapons in the game is out of my reach thanks to that cursed trait - the YCS/186 Gauss rifle ... EW stays at 85 now xD.

WW is lame.

Attack of Old Ladies? C'mon. I think they simply overdid it and crossed the line from funny way into stupid.

I use it. Ran across most of what people are describing, as well as the 'star wars reference' in Nipton.

Nope!

I'm glad they put this in to spare me the out of character real world references.

I got attacked by the old ladies, but besides that there wasn't much.

In the brewing facility near Red Rock I did notice a sign that read "Strategic Nuclear Moose" but I don't know if that appears without Wild Wasteland.

The Strategic Nuclear Moose appears without Wild Wasteland. I think it's a reference to a beer made by a craft brewery up the road from me called Brewdog. =3 They make a beer called Tactical Nuclear Penguin that was in the news a little while back because it was 32% ABV.

Some of the WW references are pretty obscure, like the Johnny Five Aces one.

There was one reference that was tied into the "Debt Collector" quest in Freeside that made me LOL. You can talk to Lady Jane about recovering her caravan from the Broc Flower cave, with the WW trait in play she warns you about the ROUSs for which you can reply "Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist!" a line taken straight out of the Princess Bride.

As for the other traits, I tried Trigger Discipline, which made sense for one of the sniper characters I was building. I chose to go without it on my current play through though, since I found that being able to fire rapidly can be also very useful especially if you have a semi auto with fair ammo capacity like the cowboy repeater or a Service Rifle, even for the sniper types.
