It does seem like there's a lot of locations that don't really serve much purpose. Of course, not every spot in the wasteland needs to be filled with unique loot everywhere. But if you're going to bother marking a location on the map, I expect it to either have something worth seeing in it, or at least be a distinct landmark. But while there certainly were locations that I'd say were worth exploring in the game, many seemed to serve no real purpose other than adding extra map markers to fast travel to. Which while convenient, isn't really necessary if the locations are really close together. Of course, Fallout 3 had its pointless locations too, but it does seem like New Vegas may have a greater amount of them.
I still like the game, of course, in some ways, I'd say it's superior to Fallout 3, but keeping the minor, non-quest related locations interesting does not seem to be one of them.
