The point I was trying to make is when it comes to things like reflexes fractions of a second count quite a bit. When firing a gun, for example, split-second adjustments could mean the difference between a hit and a miss pretty easily. Even a tiny delay could make all the difference. A second is a pretty long time when the crap hits the fan.
