I Really Hate The Cap On Xp!

Exploring is just plain fun.

One of my playthroughs will be a Paci-mat. A Bean Bag Shotgun wielding diplomat.

Hooyah.

A diplomat shouting 'hooyah' - does he wrestle?

seriously what the hell have you been doing to reach level 30 before even reaching the strip? you are in the massive minority. i reached several sidequests and locations before reaching the strip and i think i was about level 8-10. were you farming every single inch of the map to gain experience? again - you sir are the in massive minority - the level 30 cap is designed to stop uber powerful characters stomping all over every enemy in the game. get this - 99% of players don't play the way you do. they don';t [censored] around - they get to the strip BEFORE level 30. thankfully game desingers don't cater for people like you. mod the damn game if it that's big of a deal. i LIKE the cap because i don't want the game to be a cake walk. i've clocked 25-30 hours in my current game and i'm level 18, and a very happy camper.

Uhhh, maybe in bazzaro world. its an RPG dude, and a sandbox type game too, I am not going to act like I know the exact percentage of how people play the game but I am just making an educated guess that not even 10% of any players go through the game the same way. Bethesda is known for publishing titles in which some one can play through hundreds of hours and not even finish the MQ. IT took me 3 years before I finished the MQ to morrowind and I am not exaggerating, which I did only because one of my morrowind buddies laughed at me when he found out.

there are some people who just do the main quest, then the side quests maybe, and figure thats all there is to do, but considering its an rpg. I would say thats the true minority.

I'm confused, so bare with me. The accumulation of experience and the subsequent increase in character power is more important than the story? I'm pretty sure this is still an RPG and the point of the game is the story and not being bad ass or having all the money in the game world.

I don't pay any attention to my progress in levels, I'm always pleasantly surprised when I hit a level with a perk. Why, because I am engrossed in the story.

I don't know if I should feel old, because RPGs used to be about the story or just disappointed.

I agree to a point. I'm an RPG'er from way back, and the story is the thing.

I was interested to see that in the first week or so since release that a number of people had raced through the game. Obviously simply 'main quest merchants', and now we have a few people commenting on the level cap.

It's a matter of pacing character development with the game line. To be perfectly honest, nothing is more irritating for me than getting to my level cap, and then pretty much finishing the game without being able to enjoy it. The game is about developing my character to what I consider to be optimal for them, and then being able to get out there and do things. The reward is in the journey, not the end destination...

Well see, it still is an RPG...but once Bethesda made it first-person, they "revitalized" the series by attracting hordes of powergaming FPS munchkins to it. So now you've got this warring dichotomy of fans, split between people who knew Fallout long before Bethesda got their grubby paws on it when there was no arguing that it was an RPG, and "new Fallout fans" who will loudly and openly insist that it's an FPS "with some RPG elements thrown in." Same thing happened to TES with Oblivion, as the system was *koff* "streamlined" by cutting the number of skills and optimizing gameplay and combat for short-attention-span FPS style play.

well put pimp'n.

i just don't understand WHERE you racked up to level 30, new vegas has a considerably smaller explorable area than FO:3 did, you must have done pretty much everything the game had to offer before even going near the strip!

I absolutely agree that the journey is the reward and not the final destination.

I look at it this way, you start the game as rather weak and useless. You then go forth with one of three intentions in mind: 1. Vengence (MQ tunnel vision) 2. Exploration 3. A little of both. They can change on a whim as well.

So with 2 & 3 you are going to spend much more time in the wastes doing things and like in real life, this would garner you more experience and skills. Sooner or later you (like in real life) would hit a peak and that would be that, you have no were else to go. In the game, it's the cap, you have risen to your peak in the world. I might be strange, but I find satisfaction in that and will still enjoy the rest of the journey even if I have hit the cap.

But, I am absolutely for the idea of letting us fiddle with how much exp we get. I love the more options that are available, even if I probably won't use them.

I just hope all the complaining about this (along with "OMG it ENDS!11!1!!") doesn't ruin the game like Broken Steel did to FO3. :sadvaultboy:

I guess one girls junk is another mans treasure. I thought Broken Steel was one the better DLC I've purchased. Better than horse armor for sure.

I'm lvl 30 and been to the strip, but still have a lot of quest to go, quests that you are obviously skipping - I think that players like you are in the minority - people who finish the game without hitting the level cap

The half xp mode would be fantastic. I love starting the game out weak.. running from everything I see. Not being able to get into everything all at once. I love exploring every inch I can but to do that you earn xp.. and gobs of it. Way too much. And for those that are saying the map is smaller it doesn't matter. There are actually more places to explore then there were in F3.. That means simply more things to give you xp. And when they attach 50xp to a lesser creature like a baby deathclaw. It makes you wonder why the greater creature an Alpha deathclaw is also 50xp. Sure keep the alpha at 50.. but don't give me 50xp for the baby. That doesn't make any sense.
Obviously it's hard to please all the people all the time. But really it's about your gaming style. All they have to do is give more options for people to play as they want to play and you please more people. Really, how hard is it to throw in different options for people to pick and choose how to play?

Sometimes it's difficult not to level up, all my characters do a lot of exploring but only the stealth ones have slow levelling because they can avoid fights, one of my characters wanted to take on the challenge of sloan, that really increases your xp by a lot.
Fortunately since I have the game for pc I'm going to use the slower levelling mod for my next character.
