Fallout General Question

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:54 pm

Wouldn't it be awesome if they did an horror of Fallout?? Keep everything the same, just more spooky. They have all the elements, some parts are eerie now. I think it would still be good to the Fallout series, as in retaining the story. The Vaults themselves are creepy, and war....war is an terrible thing.

Yes?

No?

I'd go for it. Right after the bombs fell and [censored] loads of people went ghoul and Feral.

I don't get what you're asking. You already said that they already have horror elements in Fallout, and that all the abandoned Vaults are generally creepy. So, what are you asking for? That the entire game be this way?

It would definitely be good, but it wouldn't really be Fallout if it didn't have the twisted humour. At least, not the Fallout that I know.

@Sojur I think he's suggesting that the game be completely horror based.

Yea you could likely make a whole mod dedicated to Doc Mitchel and his demonic vault dwelling brethrin coming up out from hell to take the Mohave.

Isn't that why they release Fallout: Silent Hill Vegas?

Basically yesh (and I mean yes with an 'h') to that. I said they already had some elements true. Those elements are enough to make an massive horror, bloody-rific, sorta Santonic Fallout. Like shadows moving in the deep dark lighten vaults and caves, Mutants attacking at corners you are unable to view out respectively, voices in empty hallways to throw you off like children crying, loud screams, and shrieks. Enemies actually sneaking up on you as well. You know get the knee deep terror of war and violate my eyes while I give my soul slowly away to this series....

In that case: No.

Fallout already has it's creepy elements to it, and plenty of "Oh my God isn't war and post apocalyptia so horrible" moments as well. At the same time, it's got it's humorous elements, pulp-action adventure elements, and exploration elements as well. It's all one big mixture of different elements is what makes Fallout. Dedicating it entirely to one thing... wouldn't really be Fallout. It would be Silent Hill after a nuclear blast.

That would be a kick ass game though. It wouldn't be Fallout, but it would be good. It's a pitty we'll probably never see a good game like that, what with survival horror being a dead genre for the most part.

I'd be all for a game like this if it was its own game entirely, and not trying to springboard off the Fallout name.

I think one of the elements of a survival horror game is that you usually play a character who is incredibly outmatched by the horrors that they face in the game, and running is always a prudent option. Fallout, on the other hand, has always been a game where you have the potential to build a character who can quite literally decimate an entire army all by himself.

Yeah that's a necessity in horror games in my opinion. I've never found a horror game scary as such, but the knowledge that I can be torn appart by the game's most basic enemy if caught off guard makes them extremely tense.

You don't get games like that now though. Now we've got stuff like Dead Space, where you can kill everything in the game with a few shots from the starting weapon. And "Resident Evil" 5 :shakehead:

But yeah, like you say you're supposed to be a walking tank by the end of Fallout. It wouldn't be the same if you had to spend the entire 50+ hour game cowering away from deathclaws lol.

Uh, no.

Keep everything the same, just more spooky.

Pick a side of the fence and stay on it already...you want "the same" or "more spooky?"

More to the point- you want a Fallout game, or YAZSEU (Yet Another Zombie Shoot-Em-Up) with power armor and Fallout stamped on the box?

I always wonder where this simple fact gets lost: What makes any game great is that it is its own game, and not some other game with a couple of minor details to try and pretend it's part of a different series. Fallout: Zombie Apocalypse, no matter what you do, is still just another zombie game clone marinated in Fallout-flavored broth. Fallout Kart, no matter what you do, is still just a Fallout-flavored Mario Kart wannabe.

Yes I'm ranting, svck it up. I'm just tired of game after game after game falling prey to the following cycle: Due to popular demand, devs try to make Game A just like Game B. Result? Fans of Game A (often as not including the people who yelled about how "kewl" it would be if A was more like B...) stomp off in disgust that "their" game is now a watered-down Game B wannabe. And for the final "What the...?!"- they then run off to another game, cheer for about 2 installments of said game about how "original" it is, then start over again at "But you know, wouldn't it be cool if it was more like..."

Here's a phenomenal idea: let's (wait for it....) let Fallout be Fallout. How's that for an amazing flash of inspiration, eh?

EDIT: Oh, and in case I didn't let my inner curmudgeon fully off the leash before- what the [censored] does this have to do with New Vegas anyhow?

Dude I have adhd, my mind is everywhere. I guess I don't mean to have it entirely devoted to an whole other game like silent hill, just lean more on the horror side. I want funny haha like Three Dog funny and Mutants talking about kidnapping humans amongst on another. Deadly attacks and white knuckles feel. With all the radiation there's gotta be some freaky stuff...Three headed babies, or gigantic acid spitting babies I wanted ideas from yall too. Keep it to where it's new, and playable for all to enjoy.....Maybe I'm the only one..... lol

I'm sure people said the same with the 50 SAW Movies and 300 StarWars game and 6,000 Madden Games 1 billion Tetris game. I don't want Fallout to be that way. Have you ever seen Naruto?? (off topic) But Fallout isn't that great of an storyline (not gaming wise story wise) as that one. Fallout is going to get repetivite (it already is really), and it will just be another game just as the other game before it....

At least someone has it in reverse gear for once. Usually it's "more shooting!", "make it easier so that I can play it with my feet!", "add multiplayer!". This guy is basically saying "let's make it more difficult and more terrifying."

Yea you get what I'm saying!! lol I said keep it the same as in the leveling and clans, names, meaning of vaults and what not because you know Alios Hammer, you know what happened last time I mentioned changing the Leveling System (well, anything I come up with you have an opposed opinion to it, not like an different opinion. You literally just oppose to anything I say. lol) :D

Well, "both yes and no." It's not that I oppose anything you, in particular, say but rather that you're good at coming up with ideas I'd oppose no matter who suggested them. In fact you're not the first person to have suggested importing the Oblivion leveling system, and likewise not the first person I've opposed the idea from. :D

I've wanted something like this for a long time. Fallout has always had those creepy moments whether it was in a vault or the metro, including it's dark humor. I'd enjoy it if they did it full scale though and I think it would turn out quite well. Btw has there been a recent horror RPG? For some reason I can't think of one off the top of my head..

Three words: Doc Mitchel exorcist.

I got it.

I recall Doc Mitchell telling me he "lost something" but wouldn't elaborate at all on the subject. Maybe what he lost was a portion of his brain to Super Mutant/Ghoul hybrid cannibals! Can imagine some pretty hideous beasts resulting from such a union. (of course you'd have to ignore the whole sterility thing, but meh)

Well, I'm not into horror games, so I think Fallout as it is with its creepy elements is scary enough! :bolt: The vaults are what I find the most scary, so more of those would be good, I suppose. Vault 11 shows how creepy something can be, even without terrifying enemies stalking you in the corridors...
