cowboy repeater and latest patch

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:49 am

I have the craziest energy weapons!
But I enjoy my Cowboy Repeater + (.357 magnum) and my Trail Carbine + (.44 magnum) rifles.
Yes it's true - I noticed right away, I would headshot a guy from close range in VATS - then of course hold the reload button to put the gun away, to search corpse.
Couldn't put gun away! Nothing happens.
Hit tab, for PipBoy - nothing happens.
Controls are 'dead', very strange...
I wait a coupla moments - and now that you guys mention it, stand up from crouch - and things work once again.
Ah well, it's always comforting to know I am not alone, heheh...
Might actually have to try out my Plasma Caster + on some guys.
Regards

Is it just me or the weapon is now twice more buggy then before the patch?

The bug was there before the patch but it was not as bad, the patch actually made it worse.
Right now when it happens I click the fire button, I don't shoot and it makes the problem go away instantly.

So again if anyone is reading this, at least for outside of Vat's just click your fire button to make it stop.
Inside of Vat's you're screwed....

Hopefully the next patch fixes this and the many broken quest scripts.

Couldn't have asked it better myself. I had the one problem prepatch and now I have two problems with the guns.

i cant tell you how many times ive meet my fate due to this glitch, whenever i use one of my 'A' game guns, such as the brush gun or the hunting shotgun, if i reload at all while moving, or move inbetween, my guy starts running in the direction i initially moved him for a few seconds with a weird running animation (holding the center of the gun as if he was casually walking with it) in which i cant fire, move, use my pipboy, or practically anything. my most vivid death is running backwards from a deathclaw firing at it with my hunting shotgun, reload, get hit while reloading, as soon as im done reloading i try to open pipboy to heal...wait, why cant i move/open the pipboy! I think this is the first time that I ever saw the patch notes list a bug that the devs were introducing. I didn't even know this bug existed until I saw it in the patch notes, then experienced it in-game.

Looking at it that way, it's rather amusing. Rather annoying since I'd just started going back to using lever-actions again, but I guess I can learn to shoot while standing.

I had this bug before the patch and after the patch, so I can't really complain about the patch doing it (but I can complain about the patch not fixing it)

Just one more reason why energy weapons are infinitely superior to your low tech trash.

Which specific weapons are affected?

I know its "lever action" and "things that load one bullet at a time" but I really dont want to have to buy each weapon and watch the loading animation. I'm hoping for a specific list.

Or alternately, what are good weapons that are still rifles (if any) that are NOT affected by this? This is killing me, and the workarounds arent helping.

Thanks!

AFAIK all weapons with reloading round after round animation.

... yeah, lever actions too! lol

The rifles that are affected for sure are Cowboy Repeater, Trail Carbine, Brush Gun. Shotguns affected include lever action shotgun, and hunting shot gun.

A spectacular rifle that is not affected would be This Machine...

gs,

I guess I'll be hunting down This Machine. I know who has it. My science skill may not be up to snuff tho. :)

Thanks for the info!

I'm playing on the ps3 vanilla version, it's an annoying glitch because i kind of want to create an NCR ranger. Supposedly crouching then reloading stops it from delaying actions.

I have found one weapon that doesn't have this nasty bug. The Grenade Launcher. Not like that tidbit does any good in the current situation.

Got the wpn loading bug now, plus the 'essential monster' and 'essential npc' bug, plus the npc and monsters sticking in rocks. Just tonight I also ctd trying to use hotkeys or attaching things to hotkeys, as well as selecting any gear in the pipboy that is attached to a hotkey.

That's pretty much the game gone for me now...I'll try a new start tomorrow, but I'm pretty much ready to chuck it in unless a major fix comes along soon. These new bugs on top of the stability issues make the game hard work...too much hard work.

Who makes this patches? Bethesda or Obsidian? It's quite strange that they release a patch saying its fixed when its not. I think they are toying with us...

Naa, the problems are just... slippery.

Honestly, I'm not having any real problems before or after the patch.

The worst issue I have is, after reloading, I need to pump the trigger twice to get the first shot off. Also, I get the reloading animation loop, but only when I don't have enough ammo for a full load. It's easy to fix by changing ammo types or just changing guns.

My NPCs don't seem to be having any problems at all. Cass can kill the [censored] out of a deathclaw with her Trail Carbine and .44 mag swc.

It's a shame so many are having such problems. It's a great game when you can play it. I hope they can figure out how to fix it for everyone soon.
