Things that Really Impressed Me

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:38 pm

I'll start off by saying that this is an opposite of the "I hate Bethesda for making things new" thread.

That being said, I'd like to make a thread dedicated to what things impressed you guys when you played it. What things made you smile out of satisfaction for just "getting right".

For one, I loved the reloading bench. It's a small addition for most people, but for avid shooting sports person such as myself, I really enjoyed the inclusion of a way to reload spent cartridges. The really impressive thing about it, I think was how they made it like actual reloading. You need cases, primers, powder, and bullets, and they nailed that. I actually smiled with joy when I saw that disassembling .22 cartridges yielded no primers, as real life .22 LR bullets do not have centerfire primers either. Also, I liked how they depicted the setup of the reloading bench complete with a reloading press, a set of dies, and even a kinetic hammer (or idiot stick, as I tend to call it, given that it's used for correcting mistakes). On the subject of ammunition as well, I also liked how they did their research when it came to different types of ammunition.

-Few games actually use the term, "hollow point" and instead just go with "anti-personnel".
-I've never seen a game get .22 correct before, referring to the bullets as LR (long rifle) or plinking (general sh!ts and giggles target practice)

On a side note I was overjoyed when I discovered my first Silenced .22, which is, in essence a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_MK_II, the first firearm I ever shot (ah those childhood memories...).

-I've never seen a game where you can recover spent ammunition and reload it. That, in my opinion is a step toward realism.

1. The background music. I felt it really captured the feel of the Ol' West. (I hated the radio.)
2. Reloading Benches.
3. Quests. (more specifically the legion's quests.)
4. Repair Kits.
5. References to past games.
6. Wild Wasteland.

I'm impressed it runs on my 5 year old 5hitbox. :)

Seriously?

  • Radio music
  • The brutal awesomeness of Vault 34
  • Star studded voice acting
  • War, war never changes..

That if you close your eyes, you can imagine how this game would look on the old FO1 engine.

Not that i want it to go back, it's just good to see a game that uses graphics as an enhancement.

Is there not an open source map creator for the original Fallout? If so, someone really outta make a retro version of New Vegas.
