Way to easy to get caps?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:16 pm

First of all, when i was setting my skills i put LUCK to an 8.

I go into all casinos and bankrupt and got banned within 30 mins and racked up 37,000 caps. I could buy whatever i want and not worry about caps.

Now having to scraqe up caps to buy stuff for quest is half the fun, this just makes this game to easy. Should there be a patch for this?

37k is not that much. You can spend most of it to implants and buy one good armor. Thats about it.

Well, 37K isn't a lot. Like Kitti said implants and decent armor will eat that and then that's gone. Granted if you investigate you will finish with loads of caps, but it's better than it could have been.

I never have a lot of caps because I buy ALL the special ammo can I have for all the guns I have equipped. So i hardly ever have regular ammo.....its pretty cool.

This is true, though I still wouldn't say I was challenged for money in the late game, even though I've yet to actually get banned from any casinos other than the Tops and the Atomic Wrangler. Actually, a lot of it came from selling weapons that I looted, considering that good guns can easily sell for over a thousand caps, I've noticed that automatic weapons seem to be especially expensive. That can add up to quite a lot if you sell everything you find.

It's a pretty common thing in RPGs, though, at the start, you tend to feel like no matter what you do, you don't have enough money for anything, but in the late game, you could pretty much swim in the money you have, had it not been for the fact that money doesn't behave like water. I'd say New Vegas is actually more reasonable as it includes some things that are expensive and still worth buying at high levels. In many RPGs, you don't have much reason to buy anything in the late game because you can probably find any items still worth using at that point in loot, and you can get them for free as long as you kill whatever enemies are guarding them. If you buy them, you actually have to pay for them, assuming they're even for sale at all.

I found the balance of caps pretty decent. I actually spend my money when I get it (usually on special ammo and magazines) unless I'm saving up for an implant or a big weapon or something. I've actually even been short on caps a couple times, which encouraged me to get better at caravan and do missions with payouts.

More money sinks would be nice. Just stuff you can spend your caps on or maybe give ways you can lose your money. One idea would be to make it so when you hit the win limit in a casino, the screen blacks out and you wake up in a dumpster with half health and no chips once the bouncer makes it to you (as if he beat the bejesus out of you, took your chips, and dumped you outside)

Well I think that's the problem right there. I don't think we get caps too easy I just think there is nothing to spend them on. Food and stimpaks are way too easy to find. Without the scrounger perk there is still way too much ammo around. I have only used an NPC to repair my gear about 10 times on all my characters. I have only healed about 5 addictions and maybe twice that for radiation.

That's the problem... You're right. It's too easy to find the thing you need. The only issue with changing that however is there would be rampant complaints from the exploration oriented crowd if you changed it because they can't find loot everywhere.
