I still had a lot of fun free roaming, I actually am pretty overwhelmed right now with the amount of quests I have and the places I have to see.
My first playthrough was 165 hours (hardcoe + Very Hard + Harder hardcoe Rates mod + Expensive Wasteland mod + No Fast Travel), much longer than my first playthrough of FO3. After leaving Doc Mitchell's house I just wandered off into the desert and began exploring the wasteland and meeting people, finding new locations. Some people have complained that there are tough enemies like deathclaws and cazadores in certain areas that you can encounter when you are a low level character. I loved it! This made it much more immersive and realistic. In a real Post-Apocalyptic world, there will be some very tough enemies out there that you have to find a way to tiptoe around or escape from. Also it made revenge that much sweeter when I was finally able to kill deathclaws and cazadores.
In my opinion this game is closer to Oblivion in terms of the number of locations, the depth of story and the massive number of characters in the game. FO3 was one of my favorite games, but FNV dwarfs it in terms of the amount of content - hundreds of hours of story content, even before the first DLC is released.
