My possible new vegas purchase

did i like fallout 3: Meh

Anyways Im wondering if i should get the criticaly aclaimed fallout: New Vegas. You see i didnt really like fallout 3, now dont get me wrong the game is a graphical masterpiece and not to mention the in-depth story line. it just wasnt my cup of tea. But ive been looking into new vegas, and it looks pretty good. I know its just like a giant expansion, but the gameplay and story looks more fitting to me. But point is, how did you guys like it????

When the price goes down by A LOT and they finally fix the overwhelming litany of problems you may experience.

if youre getting it around christmas, then yes, a patch is coming out in a week or so to fix ALOT of the glitches and problems, and plus, on the 21st DLC comes out.
even if your a meh person of FO3, the aesthetics of iron sights make it alot better lol, it just adds that immersive 'feel'

What exactly didn't you like about Fallout 3? If the genre itself isn't your cup of tea you may not like it. But if say, free-roaming isn't your thing, you may like Fallout New Vegas more than Fallout 3 as New Vegas is more structured in the story department.

I personally have really enjoyed the game, though once the next patch is released I think it'll be a much more "whole" game, unless the patch breaks as much as it fixes which is a distinct possibility.

Sure, get it. It is a bit different from Fallout 3 in that it focuses more on stories, quests and characters, and if you like that, NV should be right up your alley. The gameplay has also been improved in all areas (in varying degrees). By christmas you'll be able to get the first DLC too (and by then there should be a new patch also).

Hmmm, if you think Fallout 3 had an in-depth storyline then your brain would be blown by this game. What do you mean that it's not your cup of tea exactly? Do you not like RPGs? Do you not like open world games? It might help us to be able to make a good suggestion.

If you didn't like Fallout 3 because of the gameplay, you won't find this any better (for people who didn't like FO3 this'll even be worse with things like having different types of bullets for a gun, all the micromanagement that comes with hardcoe Mode if you decide to use that mode, the fact that exploring is taken away from you early on by having monsters that can ruin your day in a hurry if you stray off the path they've set out for the first few levels)... the gameplay is largely the same (FPS with a very large emphasis placed on the VATS targetting system, perhaps even moreso in this game). That coupled with what appears to be a fairly random selection of who gets what bugs (I've had minimal, others have had lots, it all depends), you may want to just hold off until later in the new year (the most recent comprehensive patch should be out before then but still...). If you get any money for Christmas just buy a used copy.

Oh trust me, free roaming IS my thing. Oblivion wasted away much of my life, heck if im at a game store and it says "Open World" I cant put it down. i think it was just, glum? everything had little charm or soul in it. but NV looks like it has some personality

Well, I think you may like Fallout New Vegas more then, the characters feel a little more real, there's a little more color and it's a little less glum. It has been the source of much deliberation around here, but I maintain this game isn't quite as much free-roam friendly as Fallout 3, but it still has quite a bit. I say give it a go. Timing for Christmas may be perfect with the patch and DLC.

It's bad for free-roaming, if that's what you want to know. It's not even close to Fallout 3 in terms of free-roaming, in my opinion, but the story is much more influential and branching.

So you like RPGs and open world environments, but your only beef with 3 was the "glum" setting?


Then yes get it, but its more in depth and complicated than 3. If you thought 3 was too complicated etc. you may not like NV.

Once you get to level 20 free-roam becomes fun. Before that not so much. I suggest getting it, it's amazing in my opinion.

Well the characters definitely have more character and if you like open world game this is definitely one of them. I say rent it first and if you like it past the first mission then you will like the game. Its always more woth spending $6 extra on renting a game than spending $60 on a game you don't even like. Trust me i do it all the time thank god there's gamestop.

It just isn't a free-roamer's game. Free-roaming never really gets fun in New Vegas. Almost every free-roaming location is a boarded up gas station, one room gas station, trailer, trailer park, barren field, or landmark with no interior.

I think this just shows how much we underestimate, or underappreciate Bethesda's superior game-smithing, god like talents. Its not easy for a mediocre company to come in and just make a game with Beth's proprietary formula.

I agree very much, and I expected such for quite a while before Obsidian released the game. This is no insult to Obsidian, but it's Bethesda (Game Studios)'s specialty.

I would not buy it for Xbox. Wait until you have a PC that can run the game well.

There are simply too many mods available and more being created every day. Also, if you get stuck in the terrain or something, it's very easy to get out using the console commands for PC.

You truly shouldn't base any game purchase on other peoples opinions, since your on console get a gamefly account and rent it, then decide for yourself.

As for me I love New Vegas but I'm a Fallout lover period.

I still had a lot of fun free roaming, I actually am pretty overwhelmed right now with the amount of quests I have and the places I have to see.

Yeah, maybe you should be your own judge and jury. There's so much dividing in these forums that you'll never get a clear picture on what the game really is.
