Weird cross animal mutation is a stable of 1950's science fiction involving nuclear weapons. That is why Nightstalkers exist in Fallout what more explanation do you need?
Its the same reason you have giant insects and two headed cows. A better question why do Nightstalkers lay eggs? There basically a cross between a coyote and a rattlesnake neither animal lays eggs.

Ummmmm, rattlesnakes DO lay eggs, as do all snakes.

If you stay at the road you should be able to avoid all Cazadors.

Actually according to my limited knowledge on the matter, there ARE snakes that do not lay eggs.
Rattlesnakes, too, seem to give birth to live snakes, not eggs.
Although the mechanism is a bit different from mammals, as the eggs effectively hatch inside of the snake (and are missing a shell).

I never saw any of these critters until after I earned the Animal Friend perk. I remember going into a cave and this little pack of them came running out of a side cave and then just stood there chortling at me. It was just like being greeted by a pack of doggies when I get home. It is kind of nice. Then the group would follow me around the cave sniffing at my heels. I rather like them when they are like this.




The first time a Gecko stood there and covered it's eyes when I was shooting it, I shed some tears. Then I blew it's head off. I still felt bad.

Just to clarify this, all Reptile's Embryo's develop in an Egg of some kind. However, with some Reptiles this Egg like sack is thin and may very well dissapear before the actual birth so it is a live birth rather than laying an egg.

Actually this is not limited to reptiles. All animals (and some plants—but let's not further confuse the issue) develop in an egg (of some kind.) The determining or, if you prefer, differentiating factor is whether there is a placental connection to the female and to what degree, and if the egg develops inside or outside the female, and further whether fertilization takes place inside or outside the female (or male in some cases;) viz Viviparity, oviviparity, ovoviviparity.

Yeah, I've always wondered why scientists thought crossing a rattlesnake and coyote would be the ideal splice. Were they created to be biological weapons like Deathclaws, or were they just some [censored] scientist's pet project?

As I already said, radiation splicing two creatures together is a staple of 50's science fiction. This being Fallout thats the only explanation you need.
