Why was the nuka grenade cut, its the best!

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 1:56 am

Because Nuka Cola Quantum was only released in the DC area thus a vital component is missing.

^This and only this. Although the new variants might make their own weapons if crafted right...and if they had included schematics for them :)

The Atomic Cocktail is the superior craftable item. How many things could you really justify using a Nuka Grenade on, anyway? If there were less than 5 enemies in a tight space it felt like a total waste.

The Atomic Cocktail may be the superior craftable...I really wouldn't know. Don't really use the survival crafting. The rest of your statement is like %95 accurate. Although I wouldn't even use them on groups that small. A simple plasma grenade would take out a group of 5. That or "Grim Reapers Sprint" combined with "Action Boy/Girl" and "Sniper" while equiped with the "Xuanlong (I probably spelled that wrong) Chinese Assault Rifle". That combo of perks and weapon ends everything. Almost instantly. Add "Silent Running" and "Light Step" and you are a complete character...nothing else needed. The only reason I ever found to use the NukaGrenades was at the on the steps of the capital building and inside the rotunda. On the steps I was getting like 5 and 6 overlords at once and the rotunda had something like 10 Talon Mercs and 5 or so overlords AND the behemoth. 2 or 3 NukaGrenades and a single Mininuke in the rotunda not only cleared the room but gave it a nice fruit flavored glow.

Like the special Nuka Colas the Atomic Cocktail is crafted with the Science skill. It's a nice little synergy of purpose. Atomic Cocktails used against Fire or Golden Geckos or anything with a plasma rifle is like getting a super star in a Mario game.

Oh! Its not crafted with the survival skill? At the workbench? I might have to give that a go! :)

Nope, Campfire. 25 Science required.

When playing on Very Hard, it was only a nuka-genade or a mini-nuke that could put a dent in an albino radscorpion or feral ghoul reaver, and the Fat Man's overly heavy to lug around everywhere. Plus with the Nuka chemist perk you had an almost infinte supply of Quantums to make grenades with, so it wasn't like you needed to hoard them.

But yeah, is there really any reason you couldn't use Quartz or Victory in the recipe instead? It'd be another tool for the explosives-focused character, if nothing else.

My first character was an Explosives guy, didn't have any problems. It's a lot easier in FNV then in FO3.

Hmmm... Maybe I need to give it another chance.

So the grenade only really became useful once the developers introduced the bullet-sponge enemies in Broken Steel?

Yeah, before that it was more a fun novelty. Though it could save your life if you were massively outnumbered by Enclave or something, But yeah, not everything has to be useful, sometimes being fun is enough.

Just wanted clarification...

I wouldn't support bringing the Nuka Cola Grenade as a copy-paste weapon from Fallout 3 to Fallout: New Vegas. However as a new craftable weapon that functions as an incendiary, dirty, or corrosive weapon... That would be cool as long as it wasn't as insanely powerful as the original Nuka Cola Grenade.

Or perhaps there could be a new Flamer Fuel recipe or two that use Nuka Cola. I remember seeing something to that effect in another post.

In all the Fallout 3 games I've played, I never once made or used a nuka-grenade. In fact, except for making one of those flaming sword things I never made any of the makeshift weapons.

This is a bit off topic but how many weapon schematics are there? i've only been able to find one for the Dog-tag fist and the Rock-it launcher (and even that might have been added with a mod, not 100% sure)

There are a few that you start off the game with like the Time Bomb and Bottlecap Mine and only a couple that you find schematics for. What I've seen is a shift in the crafting area from weapons to just useful items like ammo, poisons, food, and repair/med items. They'll likely add more with the DLC's though.

One of the only reasons ever to take the nuka chemist perk, one of the best things for an explosive character and it gets cut

Bring back the nuka grenade in Dead Money!

Failing the Nuka Grenade (since we don't have Quantum), we should be able to make molotovs. After all, we can make Flamer Fuel... why not add an empty bottle to the mix and give us improvised incendiary grenades?

It is. You just have to have the luck to get a drop. Think of it as getting a Perfect Gem or a Unique in Diablo 2

I never played Diablo though...

I'm guessing what you described would be like finding an Epic rocket launcher on Skagg in Borderlands?

Wouldn't the Holy Hand Grenade come pretty close to a nuka grenade without the awesome blue flame ? Although it seems to always kill me when I use it... is that the joke I'm missing ? Your supposed to die when you use it ?
