Why was the nuka grenade cut, its the best!

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 12:30 am

One of the only reasons ever to take the nuka chemist perk, one of the best things for an explosive character and it gets cut

Bring back the nuka grenade in Dead Money!

Because Nuka Cola Quantum was only released in the DC area thus a vital component is missing.

My guess is that the devs cut it because it was obscenely powerful and Nuka Cola Quantum doesn't exist in New Vegas. Also, the special Nuka Cola's are useful by themselves: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Nuka-Cola_Quartz and http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Nuka-Cola_Victory.

Quartz gives you night vision and Victory gives you a good AP boost and by taking the Nuka Cola Chemist perk, you can make tons of them.

The Atomic Cocktail is the superior craftable item. How many things could you really justify using a Nuka Grenade on, anyway? If there were less than 5 enemies in a tight space it felt like a total waste.

I used the Nuka Cola Grenade to one-shot Deathclaws in Fallout 3.

Yeah, Deathclaws, Sentry Bots, Overlords, Aliens, but other than just for style how often was it worth it?

They don't want you to be able to use a super weapon to get yourself out of a jam. In F3 if you got into a jam you just used a nuka grenade or your alien blaster or your fatman or some bottlecap mines. They don't want you to be able to do that. If you get into a jam you have to find a way to deal with it.

Was it worth it? Meh... After Broken Steel came out they weren't hard to make because you could just round up a ton of Nuka Cola and then make them in massive quantities. There wasn't a use for any other weapon really because you could makes tons of the things and the insane damage they did would make short work of anything. It made the game absurdly easy.

With the lack of cool creatable weapons, I say we need more. This would make Survival, Science, and Repair that much more useful and fun. I mean, what are the wood chippers for? you could also make different kinds of grenades with the different kinds of Nuka-Cola...Victory makes an incendiary type etc.

Seeing as the only purpose of the home made flamer fuel is to svck and die it would be really neat if DLC included a recipe that let you use nuka and booze to create a fuel that kicks 17 flavors of ass.

It was awesome using those but I sometimes blew myself up but man it sure was awesome to destroy clusters of enemies with that grenade.

Unless you take Pyromaniac those are all for controlling large enemy groups like cazador swarms or fiend parties. With Pyromaniac the base+AOE+flame damage turns the game into a real-time simulation of you burning things to death.

I have no qualms with the Nuka Grenade being cut, but thinking on it, I do feel survival, like The Strip, was over hyped. I even seem to recall someone claiming weapons could be crafted with survival, yet there was like, a time bomb and one other thing. All in all. Alot of untapped potential.

Yes, because it was fun. Style is good.
I miss the nukas, too, but with Explosives being nerfed in Vegas I guess it doesn't matter.

My first character was an Explosives guy, didn't have any problems. It's a lot easier in FNV then in FO3.

I did one playthrough of FO3 using almost exclusively nuka grenades for the entire time. :flamed:

Hmm, do I smell a mod replacing the Nuka Quantums with the REPCONN toy rockets? I mean they are filled with highly volatile and radioactive substance in small amounts, yes? It should make a decent replacement in the recipe. The only trouble of course is that nearly all the toy rockets are located in one spot in the game, so once you get to Novac, you pretty much can make all that you would ever need.

Don't forget that they are tagged as quest items too.

It's one little checkbox. Very easy to edit in a mod such as one mentioned above.

Yeah I don't know why crafting seemed to be such an afterthought in New Vegas. It was one of my favorite things to do in FO3.

Now the only thing I find useful to make is Weapon Repair Kits, which I make a ton of. Give me back my cool stuff to make!
