Slaughter Casears Legion?

I killed Caesar, and then promptly ate him like a salad.

Good times.

So, I was thinking about going into the Fort and just trying to completely slaughter everyone there. Without a huge spoiler, has anyone accomplished this feat? Is it even possible, or will the legion just keep respawning??

Cleaned out their camp and when checked the corpse of the ferryman Boone said this will be most likely the last trip we take if we take that ship. I immediately knew I have a Caesar to kill...

Boone doesn't just attack the ferryman like he attacks everybody else in the Legion? That surprises me. Can you only take him over on your first trip for a quick bit of ultraviolence when first invited by Caesar, or can you go in, learn that special Unarmed move, chat with some folks, get a new dog brain, and THEN massacre everyone (or even leave and come back in between)?

Boone and ED-E both attacked the ferryman in my game. I can't imagine Boone not attacking a Legion member.

Stock up on Turbo.

It makes the praetorian guards a piece of cake, even en masse inside the small tent.

YES! Do it for any non-pro-Caesar file. The only reason to go to The Fort is to learn the Legion Unarmed Technique and upgrade the terminatortron factory under the weather station.

Death of Caesar:
Told Boone and Rex to wait a quarter click from Caesar's tent, having dispatched all the regular Legionaries earlier.
Activated Stealth Boy, entered the tent. Took Caesar with a Sneak Attack Critical from the DKS-501 with .308 JSP ammo.
Ran out of the tent before the Praetorian guard could mob me.
Pulled out the Fatman. Pumped 2 mini-nukes into the crowd from 50 yards. BTW, the little hill below Caesar's tent is a great place to shield yourself from mini-nukes. >:)
Boone and Rex finished off any survivors. Boone was happy for once.

I did it solo on Very Hard + hardcoe. Headshot city till you reach the tent, enter tent, HS Caesar, exit. Run back a bit and start putting rounds in heads as they exit the tent. You can also get fancy and C4 the tent area...

*edit, btw I was lvl 30 when I did that.

Yeah uhm... If you're playing Unarmed or Melee then you might have a problem with his guards considering they are extremely dangerous to get close to you.
I backpedeled and screamed "Oh [censored] oh [censored] oh [censored] oh [censored] oh [censored] OH HOLY [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored]!!!" while shooting them.
one got close, hit me, lost one third of my health. O_o
Of course, I was wearing a grimy pre-war suit and had a total of 0DT so that might have been the reason. :P
Still, they're freaking dangerous. :(

LOL, sounds just like my experience with them. When I tried to trade with those svckers, I just got killed over and over. Finally broke through when I switched to your afforementioned oh [censored] back pedal while unleashing the grenade gun. My ammo was exactly at zero when the last Legion took a dirt nap. Needless to say, I got a bit lucky.

For me the Praetorian guards and Caesar rushed me at the gate, along with almost the entire Fort. It was a little bit dicey - had to leave companions behind as they couldn't handle it.

I did it around level 20 with Veronica and ED-E with no problems outside the tent.

Really, it's sad how ill-prepared the Legion was to defend the fort that housed its leader from a mailman, a girl with a punching fetish, and a floating robot.

ROFL that description is just amazing, best way of describing your group I've ever heard.

On to the original topic: It's not even that hard, except the tent. Fortunately Ceasar is happy to let you slaughter his entire camp without coming out to see what all the screaming is about. Maybe he's rosining up his fiddle bow who knows.

Inside the tent, it helps to stack the deck in your favor (pun intended) with chems and try to execute a one-shot on ceasar with the biggest weapon you can find. Pew Pew is nice for it, so is an AMR, but you'll have to freehand it because VATS would leave you without the AP to get the praetorians off you. It's a must to have a decent weapon but I found him and his menagerie easier than the legate by far. All else fails you can drink a few dozen rootbeers and start dropping plasma grenades on your feet

Grabbed myself my sniper rifle, plus 200 JSP rounds, and painted myself a path in Legion blood up to Caesars tent.

All because I got sick of them calling my "profligate".

Is it possible I overreacted?

Also, slaughtering the Fort is a great way to earn Boones companion quest because Killing Caesar and Vulpes earns you 2 points for Caesar and 1 for Vulpes (Boone HAS to be in your party when doing this) and his companion quest needs 5 points. So yeah, thats an easy way to get closer to his quest :)

i was able to do it on the two characters i made so far.

once i used a sniper rifles to shoot the guard right inside caesar's tent, then switched to the avenger w/ 5mm AP ammo, it tears through everything.

on my second playthrough, i was a melee and unarmed character, but i was pretty much neutral with the legion. so i went in and planted 15 C4 everywhere.

It was the most fun I had in the game for a while and a stage I always looked forward to in subsequent playthroughs.

Trying out energy weopons on this playthough but I'm still trying to judge what energy weopons (uniques) are better for what situations, so it might go all wrong! and I'm yet to try C4 - thats sounds like fun :)

You can actually do it without having to battle anyone.

Spoiler

I went there at level 16. Make sure you have the Better Criticals perk, Abilene BB Gun, at least one Stealth Boy, and have Lilly's Stealth Girl perk. Go in and just go talk to Caesar, get the Platinum Chip, go to the bunker. Get your weapons back and run to the dark corner. Pull out the Abilene gun, once you're hidden, take out all three guards in there. You can one shot each one in the head with that gun while remaining hidden. Now you've got all your gear, just go back out to the Fort and start picking them all off one by one. As long as you're hidden with each kill, nobody will turn hostile towards you. When you've cleared that area and looted all that you want, go in Caesar's tent. Now you'll want to use your Stealth Boy. Turn it on and kill everyone but safe Caesar for last. If you kill him while anyone else is alive, they'll instantly turn hostile. So kill all of them, then just one shot him. Easy peasy.

I soloed the place at L24 with T-51 PA and the YCS/186 using MC ammo. Almost every shot is a OHKO, and the ones that aren't KB the recipient well out of melee range and give you the time for the finishing shot. Hell, when I started I had accidentally switched to regular MFCs and was still getting OHKOs. NOTE: I had 100 EW skill, so each shot was over 200 damage before any DT application.

The tent svcked, but then I screwed up during that part of the fight and did not bring any explosive weapons (had 100 in that, too). Next time I try it I am bringing a GMG with HE ammo and letting it rip inside the tent. Since I always have explosives for a second combat skill and take Hit The Deck the close blasts will not be an issue.

An EW specialist with the Wild Wasteland trait would have the easiest time of anyone, since said character could get the Alien Blaster. Would miss out on the YCS/186, though, since the encounter that gives the AB occurs where the guy carrying the YCS/186 usually spawns.
