GOOD OR EVIL(Karma preference)

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 7:56 pm

There is a way to prevent having to kill any fiend you encounter.... they will actually become your buddies if you do it right. I have not found an answer for the ghouls though.

EDIT: I may try attracting NCR patrols/outposts to chase me into ghoul territory and end up cleansing the area for me. I won't have to kill either side and stay neutral! :P

Neutral, with New Vegas I really don't care because it does not matter much. Also I should not get bad karma from stealing from bad people/dead people.

The game seems too heavily biased towards good. The normal reasons for being evil (a shortcut to wealth/power or whatever) simply don't play out in the game. The 'good' character will generally pay no price for taking that route and has more opportunities for gain. The evil character generally gets little worthwhile for his dastardly deeds and often pays a higher price in the form of lost opportunities for forgoing the alternative 'good' options. Evil may be an option, but it doesn't really pay.

And again I'll say: scrap the damn karma system.
There shouldn't be an in-game meter to tell us whether we've been good or bad, it should be up to us to determine what our character's "karma" is.
The karma system is already pretty much fail-cake.
So I say just scrap it and be over with it.

At least Fallout 3 never claimed to be 'entirely optional' about its choices. F:NV is just as guilty of punishing you for socially deemed 'bad' choices. Even going so far as to award you karma for killing certian wasteland foes.

Edit: @ Gabriel- I LIKE the karma system, its in the old Fallouts too, I just feel Obsidian didnt implement it right, kind of like how F:NVs end cutscenes are your character in FP viewing a giant TV (I'm not kidding about this either)

I'm generally good, but that's often ruined by the fact that I am an incorrigible thief and liar.

I voted neutral.
I'm opposed to being called Messiah and I have difficulty being evil

I like the neutral path, You know kill a few people here, pillage a few towns there, save a few people here, save a town or two there. Although New vegas basically forces me to be good.

Neither Beth or Obsidian ever got a handle on the whole Ownership thingy. One of my biggest little peeves. Fortunately there's always the Console

That's actually one thing that baffled me a bit. For all the things that were released in mods for FO3 that became part of the core of FNV (iron sights, hardcoe mode, etc), there was a mod called Owned! for FO3 that made it so once you killed a person, all their property became ownerless so the player could freely pick up what was left. The scripting in the mod even applied to the housing of whoever it was you killed, so for example, you could kill Burke in Megaton, then gain ownership of his shack near the bomb and the handful of items inside it. The mod was downright tiny, so should have been something they could have ported over fairly easily into the core game.

They do this in the game (as the result of a quest) but only in one place as far as I've seen.

Yeah - never did understand why everything still 'belonged' to the people I just killed
I mean - it's not like they have any use for it. ;)

Killing someone that stole a toothpick: +250 Karma

Killing a Baby: -00.1 karma

Result of not being able to kill Yes Man: Priceless

you should make a thread dedicated to these

My username and sig tells my general Moral and ethical outlook.

So in game I swing backwards and fowards when I'm playing as is with no feeling towards Kharma, just people and places.
You know, steal an entire towns items down to the plungers, then save them from raiders / gangers... etc.
Kill some crazed ghouls, rescue a captured soldier... so on.

Three hints to staying evil though steal everything one at a time never "take all", eat the dead, and go back and enter ( E on pc ) any hacked terminals again and again untill your kharma drops back to evil.
The third is the easiest and is free to use as many times as needed.

Edit: Neutrals are not on the fence btw.

Neutrality, is the choice of not imposing ones sets of beliefs on another, a militant neutral will oppose anything too strongly held as gospel just to balance out opinion.
I disagree untill you agree, then I disagree with myself and you, is a true neutral outlook.
