.308 handload rounds

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 6:40 am

I just recently started a new game after not playing for about 2 months, had da2 to keep me busy, but I recently got both dlcs so I started a new run.
Previously I used a sniper rifle alot and when I got the hand loader perk I converted all of my ammo to hand loads, but if I remember correctly it used to be just extra damage with no extra wear on the gun, has a patch changed that or am I just forgetful?
Thanks

Patched in 1.3.0.452 to wear down the condition 50% faster. Also decreased the DMG from 1.5x, I believe.

I'm biased, because far and away my favorite build in hardcoe (my preferred game mode) is the stealth sniper...and having .308 JSP's almost eliminates the need to carry .308 AP ammo, therefore cutting down on weight.

Honestly, though, by the time a player gets Hand Loader and a gun capable of using .308's (generally speaking either a Hunting Rifle or the Sniper Rifle in Camp McCarran), they should have enough Repair skill and materials to keep the weapon in question in good health via WMK's, and .308 JSP's are still far and away the best "generic" ammo available (given that both JHP and AP rounds are somewhat specialist, there aren't too many other choices)...so yes, I'd say it's worth the extra wear and tear. The only possible exception that I can think of is if using the Automatic Rifle, which when combined with the extra wear from JSP's would degrade the weapon at a frankly ridiculous rate.

Worth using to most certainly. I have a Shotgun/Melee guy and I use the Nuclear Buckshot (Magnum Buckshot). Granted I do have Destoryer of Worlds trait which wears my stuff down faster, but I like the extra challenge and it makes it feel like I have to work harder at surviving. Those magnum buckshot have been saving my ass in Zion (HH). Giant YGuai's are managable with my hunting shotgun and the "and Stay Back!" perk keeps them down.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I think I agree with you and will stick with the handloader type.
I still miss 1.5X the damage before the patch but I guess that was op.
