How much higher does the level cap need to be?

The level cap doesn't need to go anywhere.

The only thing that needs to go are all these munchkins insisting the level cap needs to be raised.

I second this.

yeah that wouldn't work too well with science or lockpicking. The game was designed around the 100 limit. I just think it would be a bad idea to raise the level cap without raising point caps also. It probably can't be done and that's fine. The game is balanced the way it is now. I do hope they have a higher skill point/level cap in future fallout games.

Aye, although if they do put in higher skill caps I think they would probably add in conditional modifiers likes of a range penalty for ranged weapons, lock condition/sophistication for lockpicking, how easy/difficult and how straightforward or esoteric something is to repair, for hacking whether the computer has any security programming running and how crude/sophisticated they are could all affect how easy or hard it is to do something.

To give an example with hacking depending on the sophistication of the computer that could affect the difficulty in hacking it and also on top of that you could also have security software to make it more difficult again with the modifier varying depending on the sophistication or even how esoteric the security software is. So you could have a situation where you have someone's home terminal (relatively easy to hack) but it's also protected by some pretty heavy security software (very difficult to hack) which equates to a required science skill of let us say 75. For a second example you could have a military computer (very difficult to hack) protected by extremely heavy security software (extremely diffucult to hack) which equates to a required science skill of let us say 175.

For a lockpicking example you could have hmm a basic lock (very easy to pick) but it is in poor condition (hard to pick due to the parts being difficult to move) which requires 50 lockpicking and again for another example a bank vault door (extremely difficult to pick/unlock) with additional security measures (extremely difficult to bypass) which would require let us say a lockpicking of 200 to get past.

I could add more examples but I think those two show enough of what I'm trying to say.

Even if they did rebalance the skill cap along with the level cap there's the problem with getting too many perks and becoming too powerful or that for each level you get +5 or +10 hp. (I dunno which one it is in this game)

You can easily get to level 30 with 1/2 of the content in the game. If you add more content to the game with add ons how much higher does the level cap need to go?

To 35, why have an extra perk

To 40, nice round number, and an additional 5 more perks

To 45, there is enough xp in just the regular game for 45

To 50, as long as they add more perks

I dont like actually leveling and progressing my character, there should be no level cap raise

No.

No more levels.. that way people without the DLC don't need to buy the DLC for another five hours of leveling.

How much higher does the level cap need to be?

Zero.

I know a lot of people want to just keep earning exp and levelling up non-stop but its just not going to work without a total overhaul which isnt going to happen, at least not for FNV. Even in FNV the player character ends up extremely powerful at level 30. Not as godlike as a level 30 Fallout 3 Character with 100 in all skills, 30+ perks and 10 to all SPECIAL stats but still powerful.

I agree the game loses a lot of its appeal once your character hits their peak, which happens quite quickly, but its not going to be rectified by adding more levels. FNV has a few problems with its core gameplay and mechanics. Raising the level cap makes an already very easy game even easier and for what? To add a couple more hours of leveling?

I'm also in favor of not increasing the level cap in terms of how many skills or perks you get. However it does feel frustrating when you hit that level 30 cap and there's no further benefits to earning XP for various things. Other than the "challenges", most of which just grant you more XP for finishing and we're already flush on that.

I wouldn't mind seeing slower level advancement to put off that level 30 wall.

I also wouldn't mind seeing skills capped based on your stats. Say, cap of 20 per stat point i.e. if you only had 2 Charisma the highest your barter/speech could ever get is 40%. It irritates me when people have "dump stats". Want perfect 100's in all your skills? Then don't drop your specials below 5.

Accualy I kinda think you misstook this a little. There are ALOT of perks on which you pick, It all verying on the
skills you raise as they raise the level cap more armor, weapons, items over all in general will become open to us.
I say its a good thing, the higher the cap sometimes the better.

Im Accually looking if they are gunna have a multiplayer feature in this, as we do quests togeather or just plain mess
around.

Never know, just wait for what the game has to offer. Probs just for the best for us.

Science, 100, Very Hard computer, hackable. 200, ?.

Yeah, it would require an overhaul to the minigames and how the skills work with hacking and lockpicking. I'd support that though, as they are now, they're pretty boring.

On topic. The levelcap is fine as it is. The best thing helping it - IMO - would be rising the amount of XP you need between the levels (this, imo, works better than lowering the XP gain as that would make completing tasks less rewarding for the player).

Ither way i think the people with fallout on computer have it easy, as the geck system has to offer.
Type in a few letters and numbers presto theres your gear or weapons,

I love the fact its on console because we get to venture without using game hack generators
as it is on the PC.
well anyway if you disagree with what im saying you might just be a person thats on Pc.. >.>

None. But I'd like the option to reduce the amount of xp gained for all kills/quests/challenges by a factor of 2. Or perhaps make it a function of the difficulty level selected? Either way would solve the problem of running out of "character expansion space" before running out of game.

I don't know that it needs to be higher but I wouldn't mind getting there slower since I tend to explore.

I do miss some of the perks I wasn't able to get but it is what it is....I'll get by since there are other things that help my character. :)

I agree about the idea of nerfing experience gain. They should make it a lot harder to level up as more and more DLC's come out.

Or simply someone who can see how ignorant you are in your generalization. If someone wants to cheat in a single player game the only thing they are cheating is themselves out of a playing experience they paid for. Most people who use the dev console at all do so to fix problems the game has.

The level cap is fine. The only wish I have is that at a higher difficulty the enemies do MORE damage and you get LESS xp for killing them. And leave my damage the way it is. That would be perfect IMHO.

30, so the game remains balanced, unlike the giant mess FO3 became with Broken Steel.....

I'm cool with a level cap of 30, but there should still be an incentive to keep playing even though you hit the cap.

There is. Money, loot, faction reputation, and most importantly - the story.

--------

As an aside, I really don't get the "you hit 30 so quickly" thing. It took me over 40 hours, much much longer than hitting 20 in FO3. And, yeah - there was still a bunch of game to go after that, but that wasn't really an issue at all. (Note that I'm not comparing it to hitting 30 in FO3 - I never hit 30 in the one BS run I did, and the next three FO3 characters I never installed BS for, because it made the game worse.)

We dont need more levels. Fallout isnt about how godly and tough our character is. Leveling up is only a side benefit. Seriously, the level cap is fine where it stands as is.

Indeed.

That being said, I would like for the level cap to be bumped up to 31. Then make getting to level 31 take 999,999,999 XP or something.

I hit 30 and played about another 10 hours. I think 35 is reasonable.

I wouldn't mind having another 10 levels, and another 5 perks, but there would have to be a massive amount of XP needed for each level.

On the other hand, if they just added more perks that you receive for finishing quests/challenges, I would be cool with that, too.

30 is fine. I'm using an XP reducer so I only get 25% of all XP so I don't think I'll reach 30 any time soon anyway. :D

I'd say keep it at 30. Sure it can be hit quickly, especially at higher difficulties (gotta wonder about the thought process on that one ), but that doesn't particularly bother me as I consider the leveling up process as only the first part of a given character's journey. Then again I tend to do everything I possibly can on every character, even though it does get a bit repetitive, so...

I had kind of hoped Obsidian would bring back the FO1 & 2 system, but without the increasing point costs since you get half the SPs at best this time around and only a small number of skill books. On the other hand it's probably just as well that it's still possible to cap 7-8 skills (managing the latter takes serious work, though), since unlike in the first two titles you cannot ask your companions to do tasks befitting their specialization (I really miss that sometimes).

As for things like Lockpicking and Hacking, if one looks in the GECK there are 6 lock values: 0 (VE), 20 (E), 40 (AV), 60 (HD), 80 (VH), and 255 (Key Required). With this in mind having the related skill able to reach 200 allows for the making of even tougher locks/comps as well as specialty perks to make it easier to crack the toughest ones (i.e. those with a rating of >200). I would also do away with the threshold system, and instead have the character's skill level determine the chance of a jam/lockout during the attempt (essentially, all lock/comp attempts would be treated like forcing a lock currently is). You want to try that 160 rating lock with a 30 skill? Then I wish you Good Luck, because you're gonna need it.

0 more levels sounds fine to me. But the XP requirements to level up need to be atleast doubled. Especially if DLC comes along.
