Next Xbox to be unveiled at E3 2012

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 6:55 pm

Like someone in another thread said, they should make it upgradeable! Either some feature that allows you to go to the store and pick up parts yourself, which can be easily swapped out, or you take the console to the store and get it upgraded there. Games could then have minimum specs.
Not sure how this would work out price-wise though. I reckon i'll end up buying a PC instead of the next gen console.

That's a dumb idea.

If people want something upgradable they should just buy a PC.

I don't give a rat's ass about any new xbox coming out. GIVE ME TIMESPLITTERS!!

Indeed. I have fond memories of making the weapon set all landmines, changing all of the bots to Duckman Drake, and then laughing my ass off as the sound of ducks exploding filled the room.

I highly, highly doubt this happens.

A lot of people pick consoles for simplicity. This would defeat that.

nooo not yet :(

I bought a 360 slim a little less than a month ago, I don't want it to be outdated yet (well, compared to other consoles, not my own computer obviously :P)

I can't wait for the next console to come out. Not because I intend on buying one but because I'm sick of having my PC games scaled down to xbox level due to terrible hardware.

This.

We might actually get a TES game that doesn't have abysmal LOD then.

Well that's generally what happens when a new console generation starts. It doesn't say it's being released in 2012, just unveiled.

I think this is a rumor, it's too soon for them to come out with another console especially when they have so much invested in the Kinect and I'll believe DirectX11 when I see in action.

Kinect could be compatible and its not too soon.

This is excalty why people buy consoles instead of a PC.Its simplenad doesn't require you to keep spending money on upgrades. Not that I don't like PC gaming.

Yea this happens every single time the generally come out in the same time frame. And hasn't a new PS console been rumored too?

I actually like this, at the earliest it would come out two Christmases from now which isn't to soon.

The Xbox was released end 2001, the Xbox 360 end 2005, so if the new Xbox is unveiled at E3 2012 we may see it end 2012 if we're lucky, maybe 2013. Definitely not too soon. :P

It would actually probably add to them. The upgradeable component of current gen consoles (HDD) are ridiculously overpriced. Imagine what they would do with other components.

If I can still play 360 games then I'm sold. If this is true Microsoft needs to make sure their transition is smoother then say what Sony did with the PS3 and the new console needs to be more stable, less Red Rings.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/117/1176197p1.html

"A 'high-ranking industry source at Crytek' told the website that while specifications for the next console have not been finalized, Crytek is using Microsoft's DirectX 11 for next-gen development. The source says Microsoft will announce the new Xbox in the next year, likely at E3 2012."

"Meanwhile, the source also claims TimeSplitters 4 is currently in development using CryEngine 3 and is already being demoed internally."

Interesting news, as long as 360 games are fully backwards compatible of course.

This is all speculation, naturally. But it does seem likely that Microsoft is developing the next Xbox, even if it isn't to be released for another year or two.

Discuss. :)

I thought it was supposed to be spelled "Tymesplytters Fyor"

That they can sell terrible hardware and get way with it? :P

I won't be buying any new consoles for at least a year or so. I'm not confident in either Sony or Microsoft, and I'm approaching the Wii U with skepticism.

A new console already? I hope Sony doesn't announce a new Playstation home system for another 3 years.

True, but they know they can sell better with a more reliable system.

Already?Xbox came out in 2001, Xbox 360 came out in 2005 the next Xbox wont come out to 2012 at the earliest. I think its a safe bet that Sony will announce a system within a year or two.

I won't be buying them because they're just too damn expensive at launch. I'm gonna wait a while until they start releasing some quality games, and then make my decision.

I've been an early adopter of just about every console since the Dreamcast (including handhelds), so I can't really complain about price, but I agree on the games. The first year of owning a PlayStation 3 was depressing really, and I don't remember much on the Xbox 360 either.

To be honest though, this generation has been very disappointing in terms of must-have games. There are a ton of OK games that would probably be rentals if I still did that, but Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined still fall short of just the PS2's offerings. There are a handful of big games still in the works for the next few years, so I think they'll go out with a bang, but the next round of consoles just doesn't seem very appealing if current trends continue.

Maybe it'll be called the Xenon or MARZ!

At any rate, I only just bought an Xbox last year, so I'll probably wait until this thing is released, and then get a 360S. I couldn't care less about playing things right as they come out, I'm a patient man.
