There are a few things you must do to avoid some issues when making a worldspace. The MOST important is making sure you set your default water height to AT LEAST 10500 units. That prevents weird shore line issues in the geck, and ingame. Now, if you want an island, you should also set your default land height to that of BELOW the water, so by default it's ocean. So, do the following. Make your worldspace. DON'T load into yet. Set the default water height, AND default LOD water height to 11000 units. Now set the default land height to somewhere around 10000-10500 units, depending on how deep you want the water to be around your island. Then you can load into your worldspace, and in cell 0,0 start raising the land up above the water and expanding that raised area outward to create your island. Creating a new worldspace is one of the hardest things to do in the geck, so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask! I'm currently making my third worldspace, so I think I've figured out how to get around any issues.
If your issues persist, try taking a screenshot of them so I can see what exactly it looks like.
