Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Thread #3)

It's not as bad as the original. you got points for flushing a toilet. :P

'Public Hygiene Bonus' for flushing dirty toilets, I remember yeah. That's from the Shifter mod though, not the original game. :P
It was the same way in DX1. Honestly I like it, I feel more rewarded and like I'm actually progressing.

'Exploration bonus' points were in vanilla DX1, but points for killing/knocking out enemies is a Shifter feature.
Why would anyone region lock a game in the first place?

I'm not sure. I guess they'd earn more money if all Europeans would buy the game in euros rather than importing it from England for 33% less.
After the debacle that was Invisible war, i was expecting the third iteration in the series to be the final nail in its coffin.

Believe me, when some of the first details they announced were 'it has regenerating health and cover based stealth in third person and no skill system' I thought exactly the same.
I pre-ordered Human Revolution for my PS3 and I plan on playing the first Deus Ex, but thus far, I have no experience with the series. I've already gotten estimates from others, but assuming I'm the type to explore my surroundings for fun, how long would the original Deus and/or Human Revolution last me... assuming I only play one playthrough? I may try more than one playthrough, but the really fun stuff is, in my opinion, only really during the first playthrough, so that's what I'm most concerned about. Also, is Invisible War really so bad that I should never even try it?

My last Deus Ex playthrough lasted around 20 hours, but I was doing a stealthy approach all the time and exploring a lot so that takes longer. On the other hand, that was like the 6th playthrough and you always go through things faster when you replay a game.

No idea how long HR will be, but it should be pretty long.

DX1 is not the kind of game I'd recommend playing through only once though, since you'll never find everything in your first. And finding new things is awesome. But it's your choice.

Wait a minute. If I explore, a single playthrough will only last me 20-25 hours... and Human Revolution is shorter? :sadvaultboy:

25 hours is a long time for a game with a rich, deep story about international conspiracies. I'm currently playing through Deus Ex again and it feels nice and long, especially as i'm exploring everything. For a first playthrough, it might take you 25-30 hours if you're really a completionist and want to see as much as possible. But as someone above pointed out, you never see everything in your first playthrough, because you can only specialize so much, and access to some areas require a high degree of specialisation in one thing or another that you won't have access to.

And you're right puvuholo, i totally forgot i had shifter mod installed!

in fact i hate when games hold my hand like that. same reason i hated quest arrows in oblivion.

How do skill points hold your hand? Stuff like making a game easy with no option for challenge is holding your hand. And off topic but about the quest arrows in Oblivion, I know you may have never been introduced to this concept but how about you just... don't use them? I personally don't see what's wrong with them considering I'm awful at direction and being lost for hours is definitely not fun.

Deus Ex HR also has some kind of objective marker... And a highlight for all objects that can be interacted with... But they can be switched off! :D
