It's you optimistic peoples' fault, anyway. If you weren't always acting like there were any non-terrible things, we wouldn't have to spend all our time explaining why there aren't.

I see it as, if people hate a film, game, band, they really hate it and there seems to be no middle ground with folk on the Internet.

My opinion on NV for comparison? Didn't really enjoy it either, rather boring I felt but it wasn't truly bad. Some people on other forums (including this one) treat decisions that didn't work perfectly as bad ones and go on saying elements of, or indeed the entire game, totally svck.

Take a look at No Mutants Allowed; they find pleasure in hating one 'non-canonical' Fallout title, they only refer it as 'The Burned Game', as if mentioning it's true title or indeed saying you actually enjoyed it, will make the Internet call you [censored] and an idiot in the highest order. Its really stupid the hate game on the web.

Some people just go against the normal flow of things for attention.

I think it's a pretty equal split between haters and fanfolk on the internet. It's only places like here where the people are sensible enough to dislike some of the things which are otherwise loved in pop culture. I mean, people on forums hate plenty of stuff, but if they didn't like a certain thing (what the forum is about) then they wouldn't have joined. I don't think there are any universal haters.

I like stuff, especially if it is free.

A lot of the time, I don't hate a specific band, film etc... but I hate the fact it is so popular. For example, I feel that Eminem is far overrated, but I can tolerate what he does.

I personally detest the whole concept of hating something unconditionally. I have developed a philosophy of, "if I don't like it, it doesn't mean it svcks". Nothing is inherently bad. Not Justin Bieber, not Fascism, not Dragon Age II, not C&C4, not nothing.
What annoys me greatly is people selling their opinions as facts. It doesn't make sense. People should realize that world doesn't spin around them. Nobody likes everything. If you don't like something don't do it, don't intentionally hang with people who like it and most definitely don't see things in black and white. And when talking about media, don't take things too seriously.

I generally have rather liberal tastes and I enjoy a great variety of entertainment. I of course prefer some things over another ones but if I don't like it, I always add the magical abbreviation "IMO" before telling why I don't like it.

I find it baffling how there is no compromise in the world of sequels. I started with Fallout 1 and worked my way to NV.. And I say that I like Fallout 1 and 3 the most. However, to most this reads as "lol i h8 fallout 2, NV, HERP DERP". I know I'm in minority but hey, at least I don't go around advertising my preferences as my daily hobby.

The other problem is, it's the internet and everyone has an opinion. See in real life if you went spouting your opinion off all the time you could get punched in the face or worse. On the internet you can't get punched in the face so people do it more vehemently. They also do it just to troll and make you upset and it works most of the time. Then, like Pistolero said, people try to put forth their opinion's as fact, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

I'll just NV as an example. You can say you think it's bad, but it's wrong to say it's bad just flat out. Because that presents it as fact, when it's not, because it's not a bad game. But you can think it's bad, because that's your opinion. Now since bad is subjective overall, you have to go with a majority basis on whether or not it's actually bad or good. What the majority says, rules. Like the case with most things. Now this majority says, might not always be loud..because a lot of people who like things don't post on the internet and so therefore we have no way to know how many people like it. So you have to find what you can find and use it there. The majority of people on the internet who have played NV, probably range in the like it category than the don't like it category so that's why it doesn't get labeled as bad, when it comes to bad. This works with almost everything.

Now that I have confused myself with my last paragraph..I'll stop here!

EDIT: I also wanted to say, generally when someone who posts an opinion is more experienced in the field they are posting an opinion about..like computer hardware, you can take their opinion to be more cemented in fact, than not fact..even though it's still just that..an opinion. It's like a higher tier of opinion. If Tig told me something was good and I looked around the internet and saw a 50/50 for reviews on it, I'd go with it being good because Tig's opinion is based on experience or know how and I can rely or trust on it as being good.
