BioShock has its creepy moments in all fairness. Definitely not a horror game, but the opening of the game creates a feeling of vulnerability like few others.

Maybe, but the OP wants extremely scary games, it does not qualify.

Also, as for Thief, I assume you mean the zombie level? That was pretty eerie yeah.

Those games, and especially FO3, are not scary at all, at most there were a few moments that made me jump a bit. I haven't played any of the other games mentioned, despite wanting to try Amnesia: the Dark Descent. But I haven't tried that yet since I'm a coward.

I have played Call of Cthulhu though, and it is not only truly frightening, but also one of my favourite games ever. It's a fantastic game, level design, writing and voice acting are all excellent and it has an amazing overall atmosphere. Especially recommended if you're a Lovecraft fan, but even if you never heard of the guy it is still a really great game. It gave me terrible nightmares about

I'll second the recommendations for Amnesia. Be sure to bring spare changes of pants for that one. Silent Hill 1 and 3 I found pretty scary, too. (Haven't played more than the first 15 minutes or so of SH4, so can't give a good recommendation there. And as I've said in similar threads, I don't find SH2 scary so much as it is deeply unsettling and disturbing. SH1 and 3 are much more conventionally "scary." Still, if you're going for SH, you owe it to yourself to play SH2, too. Maybe you'll find it scarier than I did, and if nothing else, it's one of my favorite games of all time and probably the best in the series.)

If you've got Half-Life 2: Episode 2 installed, OP, I would definitely recommend http://nh2.wecreatestuff.com/. It owes quite a few things to Condemned: Criminal Origins (a very memorable mannequin sequence, for instance), but it's hands down one of the scariest games/mods I've ever played. Just as scary as Amnesia, if not moreso. :cold: (Despite the name, there's no Nightmare House 1 you need to go hunting for. It's bundled into the mod as a prologue.)

ehh, i find Dead island quite scary . But F.E.A.R. 1 is awesome, scary and everything. but if you want something really scary, My little pony: Balls of doom.

Its actually not that scary but more suspenseful. I feel like the lack of monsters and their general designs are pretty weak...Its a good effort for a small development studio, though.

I feel like games like Bioshock 1 created a creepier atmosphere...especially when you bring children into the situation. Sander Cohen's Fort Frolic as well as the little sister's orphanage were just plain out creepy.
