Also the http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1451/, from the same developer. It's 50% off for today only.

And Condemned: Criminal Origins, by a different dev.

I wouldn't call any of those scary, personally. But then again (and I don't mean to sound like I'm bragging) video games seem to be unable to scare me.

Well, I don't scare at all. I can only enjoy horror games on a gameplay and sometimes story level so I cannot really recommend anything for you based on my own experiences. As for just fun games that are "scary" I'd recommend Condemned 1&2, Resident evil 2, 4, and 5.

As far as I know Amnesia: The Dark Descent (linked below) is supposed to be pretty freaking scary. I haven't been able to play it myself since it is PC only though. :(

The only game that has ever successfully frightened me was the Killer Croc fight in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I guess that's why forums and the Internet in general for that matter, are used to express opinions.

I wouldn't call Bioshock scary, but it's creepy and erie as all hell. Left 4 Dead isn't scary, but there can be "Oh crap, we're screwed" tense moments.

I really liked Amnesia: the Dark Descent.

Recently, however, I tried Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth for the very first time and it blew me away. It's a really unique game, brilliantly written (based on H.P. Lovecraft works and the pen and paper RPG "Call of Cthulu"), IMO it also seems to have been a major influence on Amnesia.

Dead Space 2 and Doom 3,but I prefer Doom 3 on the PC over the Xbox version, better graphics.

But I was unable to finish Doom 3 :[ Especially when you play with headphones at full blast and with your lights off....

Dead Space 2 gave me a bunch of "OH EFFF THIS!" moments from all the freakin Necromorphs popping unexpectedly. Especially when they are laying lifeless on the floor and you think they are dead and they suddenly grab you,oh man. And the atmospheric sounds really make you feel uneasy, constantly hearing hissing noises and the usual horror instrument constantly gradually getting louder as if something were sneaking up on you.

Alan Wake can get pretty creepy.

FO3 scared the crap out of me at points even though it's not meant to be a horror game. It's got great atmosphere.

Silent Hill 2.

Thief: Deadly Shadows has one of the scariest videogame levels in history.
