Do you have wanderlust in real life?

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:06 pm

The Elder Scrolls first introduced me to the term, and I'm glad the games exist because I constantly feel the urge to explore the forests and landscapes I live near. Just wondering if anyone else has wanderlust and do you ever divulge it (camping, climbing, etc?).

Hmm, I used to explore the forest around me a lot. Nowadays it's been cut down and houses built there..

I've had wanderlust all of my life, and it's the biggest reason I despise city living. I feel limited in exploration, as opposed to when I lived in the countryside and could enjoy the forests and fields around me... Camping and hiking is something my husband and I have always loved doing together, and our kids are showing an interest in these activities, too. ^_^

At least, when I can't get out of the house, I have Tamriel to explore. :D

A little I guess, I've already explored most of the stuff around my house though.

yes, both me and my best friend, which is perhaps why we are best friends in the first place. Near my house there were fields and a forest with a small river/ spring running through it and we used to love getting lost in there for an afternoon.

I used a cornfield near there once to escape from some drunken yobs one night whom I'd stumbled across whilst on a midnight walk to clear my head. I thought I was going to get bottled as they chased me so I pulled up my hood and just disappeared in the corn. It was creepy because the corn was right over my head, but exhilarating as well. Yup, that corn might have saved me a few stitches in my forehead that night.

Shame, they're building houses on all that land now. Guess I'll have to find somewhere else to wander.

Really? I live in a big city. I've lived here for over 10 years and haven't even scratched the surface of it. You could literally explore forever and not find everything.

That said, I do a lot of camping, hiking, rafting, canoeing, and traveling elsewhere as well. I guess I do have the wanderlust.

Not really because there's no place to do it in since I practically live in a concrete jungle. Could try exploring the streets at night though near me with the recent events that's a good way to get robbed, shot, stabbed or all three. My grandma's property has a good amount of trees up there and I did have fun walking around that area. Wouldn't mind going back but those stupid ticks are a nightmare even with bug spray. Still remember getting a cigarette from an uncle of mine and using it to burn one of the little turds off.

To an absurd amount. When I was a kid, I lived in several different areas. East Grand Forks, there was a wooded area behind our house, and the red river. I'd go down there often. In Hibbing, I'd explore the hills, there were old dirt paths through some forested areas. In Bemidji, I lived in a rural area surrounded by trees. I knew where there was a pond out in the woods, there was a clearing with really long grass, and a bunch of pines on the other side.

The only annoyance was ticks. I'd have to check every single time. I was usually able to catch them before they bit.

Yes. I absolutely love to explore, that and playing video games were the only two activities I truly enjoyed in my childhood. I just love going into the unknown, plus I do not meditate like most people. If I need to clear my head and just think about my situation, I go for a walk into some unknown woods.

I do. I want to see the world, walk in the forests and explore the mountains. See new cultures, visit the countries where my family originated from. But like your typical Americans I'm stuck in the system. Work, pay bills, sleep, repeat.
