To an absurd amount. When I was a kid, I lived in several different areas. East Grand Forks, there was a wooded area behind our house, and the red river. I'd go down there often. In Hibbing, I'd explore the hills, there were old dirt paths through some forested areas. In Bemidji, I lived in a rural area surrounded by trees. I knew where there was a pond out in the woods, there was a clearing with really long grass, and a bunch of pines on the other side.
The only annoyance was ticks. I'd have to check every single time. I was usually able to catch them before they bit.
