Since we're talking about a timescale in billionths of a second, perhaps we've simply got the speed of light wrong and CERN just handed us a more accurate means to measure it?

Or perhaps we have the laws wrong?

If CERN can repeat this and prove that the particles actually did travel faster than the speed of light then they are indeed wrong, but I don't think CERN will be able to repeat this.

I am looking forward to seeing what happens though. It's very exciting.

This is an interesting concept. But even if that is the case them it still ruins Einsteins theories and such because then E =/= mc^2, because, as far as I'm aware, the speed of light was deduced from this equation, and later verified by measuring it.

It cool that they made this discovery but unless we can build some sort of barrier around a ship or probe, you're not going to get very far. Still a nice little step in the right direction I think.

Not only that, we would have to find a way to keep from crushing the human in the ship into a little bloody meat ball.
