Opening Argument:
A 1st person is hands down, the better way to have a shooting/punching game.
Sniping a mutie down WITHOUT a scope lessens the awesomeness. Say what you want, utilizing the Anti-material rifle on a nightkin, predicting his movements and seeing that red splatter where his head was supposed to be. How exactly do you snipe someone down in 3rd person like in FO1 and FO2? Use vats and pray to the math gods that 15% is enough to score you a headshot/eyeshot? (ps vats is not in FOOL). How about lobbing a grenade? Can you make it bounce off a corner into a group of raiders?
In unarmed combat in FO:NV, it was extremely like real 'boxing'. Timing a gecko's advance to deliver a forward legion assault directly on its head was a calculation of the distance and relative speed of the gecko towards you. Failure means you miss, and are engulfed in flames. Success means you break the gecko's head. In a 3rd person stance as in Tactics, you have no change to dodge an uppercut. Hitting or dodging relied solely on vats chance.
Combat in games as epic as Fallout SCREAM to be in 1st person. It may be tantamount to blasphemy to say so, but the combat system in FO3 and FO:NV is just right for fallout.
What say you?
