2 x GTX 580 or wait for 6 series

Post » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:37 pm

Last time I had ATi it was really loud, granted it was when directx10 was released but I would prefere a quiet card as PC is near silent.

I dont wanna argue bout which is better, I found supporters for each online but in my limited experience ATI exhausts kick out some noise.

more power guna mean more noise, solution is to get a better fan for your gpu, they reduce the noise to unnoticeable levels.

Eh, you've already wasted tons of money, what's a few hundred more? 32GB of RAM? A 2600K? For gaming? Utterly pointless.

ATI cards are too loud with exhausts (in past experience)

I just bought an AMD Radeon HD 6950 from Sapphire with dual fans and I can barely hear it with the case 1.5ft from me along with running four 120mm fans at 1200RPM and a 200mm at 780RPM.

I don't about the single fan models but the dual fan stays pretty quiet. If you decide to go AMD the best you could do (within reason) is two 6970's in crossfire or a 6990 which is practically the same thing but only one card.

Yeah but whats the difference in price why not pay a little more and get twice the amount?

EVGA SuperClocked 015-P3-1582-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support - $484.99

EVGA 03G-P3-1584-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $589.99

Because twice the amount doesn't actually do anything. I agree with iGuess, if you just have money to burn go for it otherwise I'd quit while you're ahead.

If you can afford 32GB RAM, you can afford 2 580s, and then use them to hammer stuff when you buy 2 6XX series cards while smoking a Cuban cigar and firing subordinates.

If you can afford 32GB of RAM as others have stated, then you can afford to buy ME 32GB of RAM too. :hubbahubba:

1x GTX580 is more than enough to handle games and your in-laws at the same time.

The 5970 is still 2 GPUs on a single PCB. AMD is still calling the 5970 its flagship GPU.
