Do you think Bethesda will ever release another RPG game...

I would love to see them tackle something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun. In fact the current owner of the liscencing has stated an intention to NOT develop in the near future due to Microsofts mishandling of it in the last iteration.
Smith and Tinker reportedly paid something like 5 million for liscencing of titles Shadowrun and MechWarrior and Crimson Skies... So perhaps there's some option for Bethesda to pick up the liscence cheaply and put it to good use.
A pipe dream, likely, but one I'd love to see come to fruition.

I would LOVE for someone to do a real Shadowrun game. I don't want that someone to be BGS, though. I just don't think it's their style, and one of the strong points of the source material is the game mechanics, which Bethesda has (IMO) botched horribly in their last two designs (Oblivion and FO3). Just my opinion. I'm a huge fan of Shadowrun from back when the first edition source books were published, and Battletech before that. As someone that spent a lot of time as a GM for Shadowrun campaigns (many years ago) it would make me cry to see Bethesda butcher the beautifully robust RPG system. :)

^^
I'm with you in terms of the mechanics being one of the strong points of the franchise... But in my dreams they won't get all fuddled when being put into video game form. Remember when video game developers actually tried to replicate the rulesets from PNP games? Back before all the PNP games had to release ultra-simplified 3rd and 4th editions (although shadowrun continues to wield a rather deep and satisfying ruleset).

They will take all past forum suggestions and make a free roam cowboy hunting zombies MMO set in a post apocalyptic fantasy setting

I want them to do that, but play it completely straight, no kooky ooc humour or genre-savvy characters. Just build a legitimate world that has every reason to have cowboy ninja pirate robots.

They will if Bethesda gets their hands on them.

Game Studios making another IP, well for that to happen Fallout 4 would need to flop badly and it's too early to tell if that would happen. I think I'll say yes BGS could easily come up with a new IP but don't expect it for 4 years if they do because that's how long they will develop it.

i don't think so. these two work just fine. and pouring resources into another one is probably not an option right now, as i think they are pretty much got their hands full with all the games they do have out. takes a lot to maintain this many games, me thinks. another one will not help with effectively using the available resources.

Fallout 3 was an RPG? Sense when?

I'd rather have Beth just stick with TES and leave Fallout to Obsidian.

I don't see them making another series anytime soon. The only way I could see that happening is if a Fallout or TES game just completely bombs and they drop one of the series (which I don't think will happen).

If Oblivion is an RPG, then so is Fallout 3. Just because one uses guns and one uses swords, doesn't make it any less of an RPG.

No, but the fact that the RPG systems are [censored] does. :P

Not my point.

I am channeling my disapproval of what Beth did with Fallout by down grading its status in my mind to nothing more than a FPS that lets me move in more directions than usual. Not that it was a bad game, its just that when I play Fallout I don't want it to be nothing more than Oblivion with lasers, bullets and power armor.

Well yes it's less of an RPG than the original games, but I would never call it an FPS.

The shooting just plain svcks anyways, so VATS is a must.

I'd like to see Bethesda have 4 RPG IPs, with one release a year (so each IP is "rested" for 3 years with no release). I think some sort of Deadlands clone (or get the IP) would be a great third, and maybe something like Conspiracy X as the 4th.
