Account Hacked

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:55 am

Can't believe it my Xbox Live account was hacked today. Just went to log in and had to recover account and noticed all my points were gone. I had over 3500 points, saving for any Skyrim DLC and now I have 30 left. Also found someone played FIFA 12 on the account and I don't own the game. Finally have the account back and changed password. I think I am more peaved cause I doubt Micro$oft will replace my lost points.

Last time I checked, MS isn't a credit card company and is therefore not responsible for your inability to secure your account.

Stop using the same password for all your services. That's probably how your Windows Live ID got "hacked" (it's not even really hacking)

First off I am not a child and I do change up passwords. I know MS isnt a CC company, but they are responsible for their account security like any ONLINE company. I also know they didn't just figure out the password. Somehow they transfered my points from my account to somewhere else on another. There aren't any purchases on it whatsoever, so obviously they ganked the points somehow and I believe that is hacking and more then just password theft. You can not just log in and transfer points from one account to another.

You must be overlooking something then. All the FIFA hacked accounts had points spent, no one even got access to MS by any stretch of any looks at it, rather the culprit seems to be that EA got hacked and people used the same password for EA and Windows Live.

General points:

there's no way to transfer MS XBL points

in order to drain points from one account to another, a hack of XBL would have to be done, in which case the damage would be much more widespread and would have been all over the place. Maybe not as bad as the PSN hack, but much more prominent than it currently is.

So like I said, you are overlooking something, and MS is in no way responsible for this. Believe me, I'd love nothing more than another reason to put down MS, but unfortunately for me, MS definitely is NOT at fault here.

They're responsible for the information on their website, yes. But if you use the same password everywhere, or a simple password, it's your fault.

As for the points, they probably used them on Zune content, since it's impossible to transfer Microsoft Points.

I just checked zune and nothing out of the ordinary there. I also went through all my downloads and saves and nothing wrong there either. It is like just Gone with the Wind......LOL Yeah I know a BADDD pun.......

So in a nut shell it is always the account holders fault and the companies get off scott free from any responsibility as usual??? Go Figure, like I haven't heard this before.

Not always, but in this case it's either the end user's fault or EA's fault, not MS, so MS gets off free because they aren't guilty of anything.

Ok just checked email, wanted to see if there were any purchases and there weren't. So how are people using FIFA through EA to get into the accounts. Also I have never played FIFA or had an EA account, so I don't know how that works.

-Buy stuff in-game as it says in the articles

-Deleting emails after compromising your account would be so hard?

-Many people being compromised haven't played FIFA, it's just the common link in what the hackers do afterwards.

-If you don't have an EA account, your password is probably in one of the other countless leaked databases that have been produced just in the past two months. Every site needs a different and complex passwords. If you don't have a password management system, then your passwords are too similar/not complex enough.

If your account had truly been hacked, call them up and find out where all your points went. You can do that right?
