Desktop, hands down :bowdown:

You can′t seriously play a game on a laptop unless you′re travelling. Like, why even bother to sit at home crouching over that for several hours? :rolleyes:

Lie down in bed! You can't really play when you're traveling either. Laptop batteries usually don't last very long.

Desktop, much.....much more suited for my gaming style and more upgradable. Plus eyefinity, my new love of multi-monitor setups.

Desktop of course.

For gaming - Desktop.
Pros: Easy to upgrade parts, less expensive, more power.
Cons: Not very portable. Requires external power source (power outage = no desktop).

For general, non-gaming use - Laptop.
Pros: Portable, built it webcam, most are WiFi enabled, can be used without external power source (as long as the battery is charged).
Cons: Can't upgrade parts (graphics card, stuff like that), more expensive than desktop with same performance level, battery life can really svck.

consumer mobility (utility on the go for consumption, different from portability): tablet, netbook, laptop, desktop

short-term productive mobility: laptop, netbook, tablet, desktop

long-term productive mobility: netbook, laptop, tablet, desktop

Laptops only win one niche category: producing content when mobile for less than 4 hours.


Laptops have long lost the advantage of portability, and can hardly be considered portable compared to alternatives. Their only remaining advantage is the ability to fully utilize a workstation-grade operating system without constantly being plugged in.

Desktop, they're more powerful and upgradable. I can't stand those cramped little flat keyboards and touchpads either :sick:

Desktops are better for performance and value, but I like having a gaming laptop for portability.

Hrm...I dunno...it's definitely easier to pack up and tote a laptop than a desktop. Sure, they're relatively big and heavy, but they're not difficult to re-locate.

Obviously I was referring to tablets and netbooks, which are many times more portable than laptops -- not referring to desktops. Hence they've lost the portable advantage to other devices. But over netbooks and tablets, which are limited in power/capabilities, laptops have a greater scope of capabilities (at a significant cost of battery life and portability -- getting generally less than half that of tablet and netbook counterparts and being significantly more bulky) allowing for productive work on the go.

I'd much prefer a desktop. But I'm constantly traveling so I have a laptop so I can do things on the go.

Ah. I was strictly looking at it from a "desktop vs laptop" perspective.

Desktop:

Bigger screen, more power, customizable, upgradeable.

Desktop everytime

- Laptops cost more than a PC of the same spec
- Desktops can be easily modified and upgraded, much harder and in most cases impossible to do with a laptop
- Desktops give better performance
- Desktops are easier to repair... example, if you are a wally and drop your drink on your keyboard, you can just replace the keyboard. Do that on a laptop because it is all one unit it will damage everything else as well
- Desktops are better for gaming imo, they are easier to keep cool as temperatures get high during long gaming sessions

The only time a laptop is useful is if you need it for your work... in which case buy a cheap one and invest in a decent desktop for everything else.

Desktop.Better performance AND cooling.

Laptops are good with portability if you have your charger cable with you and you're somewhere where you can plug it in. Same could be said for a desktop, but it's rather inconvenient to carry one around plus monitor, mouse and keyboard

Desktop - upgradeable and more powerful. I do wish I had a solid gaming laptop for those evenings I don't feel like sitting at my computer desk, but I can't justify the cost when I have a perfectly good desktop PC.
