get enRaged!

So yesterday I went to Gamestop to trade-in Rage for an Arkham City pre-order. As I was entering the store, a customer stops me dead in my tracks and says, "Why are you returning that so soon?".

I replied, "well, it ended up being a huge letdown to me."

"why?"

"well, the single player game took me under 15 hours on the hardest difficulty, the ending was pathetic and theres no on-foot multiplayer, and the multiplayer that's there is shallow. Better off renting it."

"Dang...thanks alot man, I was about to buy it and I saw you returning it and thought I'd find out why. I'm definitely not getting it now."

Alot of you mindless zombies with trashy gaming tastes are going to flame me, but it won't take away the fact that I did my part to help spread the truth about this crap, and I helped spare another consumer from the disappointment of this purchase. I want this game to fail miserably and I will tell every gamer I know to steer clear.

Have a nice day!

I'm here to educate the willing and to enrage the weak-minded. Mindless consumers will spend their hard-earned dollars on this unfinished game because it has id's name attached, and the real dumb ones will get svckered into purchasing DLC within the next few months. This DLC, like so many others, will be a slap in the face to consumers because of the simple fact that the content should have been released at retail launch. Id has become just like the rest of the big boys in this industry, and I have no more respect for them. Again, I want to see this game fail. Sorry if you can't comprehend my words, but I hope this answers your question =)

That is your opinion of the game. How do you know he would not enjoy it?

You're not spreading the truth, you're spreading your opinion. Which by all means you have every right too. Maybe you should have finished the conversation with, that's just my opinion maybe you should find out for yourself!

that's thin....it absolutely is the truth...TO ME...and from what I've been reading and hearing, to many others as well.

Look, I'm glad that some people like it, I really am. I hope that it at least sells enough for them to break even. I don't fault the hard-working developers of this game - the people that do all the actual coding and art work - and I want their livelihoods to be sustained because they've worked hard to get where they're at and are really sharp people.

I blame corporate interference. I blame the "suits", or "bigwigs" in charge of keeping shareholders happy. They're the ones basically saying, "We call the shots on this thing since we put the money up for it.", thus stripping the developers of the ability to craft a game their way. When I say I want this game to fail, I'm specifically targeting that malicious desire at the people who didn't actually touch the game, but influenced it's crapiness - the people who sat on their asses, barking orders and collecting fat checks. They don't deserve success.

Sorry dude but the only people that suffer are the devs... The "suits" as you put it wont and will almost never suffer. The big guys like Activision, EA, Mircosoft, WB and Zenimax have the ability to cut loses by having studios make cuts, or shut the actual studio down. And after that they can just find someone else to be a cash cow. Sure it svcks but wishing for a video game to fail would only hurt the artists and engineers. And you know what; I actually like the work Zenimax is doing with the companies they have. From what I've seen it looks like they give quite a bit of creative control to the actual Studio, so props to them.

Also I would say the majority of people are actually enjoying this game. No one I've talked to has had a bad thing to say aside from the bumpy start dealing with drivers and what have you. It seems like the only people who are crying foul and returning the copies are the most cynical of gamers. I would also claim its a fairly younger crowd. But that's just a guess :P Also I would say the people who felt Rage wasn't their cup of tea probably did return it, but they aren't going around forums and spouting angry messages of why this game has failed the gaming world.
And I'm sorry but for alot of FPS these days with 16 to 20 hours of game play, that's pretty damn good. I think the last FPS games that I played that were over 20 hours was Doom 3 and Half life 2... back in 2004.
Most other modern shooters these days that I've seen or played seemed lucky to break 15.

You seem fairly adamant on your opinion of this game and I can respect that. I feel you are wrong, I love this game and I'm doing another play through at this moment. I won't go into details because I'm fairly certain you would rather hear nails on a chalk board. But you baiting people on a Rage forum saying you guys a game you love is a sin. What do you really think is going to happen but make people angry?

But anyways man you have fun with you crazy spandex wearing pedophile who gives little boys green thongs :P I'll happily run around with a shotgun.

OP I agree with your opinions, I have written a "disjointed thoughts" post in the other section, but your tone is inflammatory. I suspect that you have played older id games so just show some sympathy. If you have to return it, by all means do so and state your opinions to inform the rest of the community.

But that doesn't mean that you have to be a [censored] about it.

it is inflammatory, and with games costing $60, I feel entitled to it...I've purchased every other id game, thus making me an integral part of their success, and no I'm NOT from the younger crowd. I'm 34. Id games are the reason I got into building my own PC's. I was playing Doom 2 and Quake 1 over a dial-up connection while I was in high school. Later, throughout my entire college life, I would lose many hours playing Quake 2 and Quake 3:Arena over my universities T1 connection. As I've stated in other rant posts, I find the omission of on-foot multiplayer to be completely inexcusable, especially from the creators of the genre. I think the ending is garbage (you kill a short, easy mob, hit a switch, watch a lame 2 minute cutscene and boom, its over). The reason this game fails for me isn't necessarily the game itself (although for me, the ending ruined what was shaping up to be a decent single-player game), it's the lack of content for a $60 product. Hell, with all of the negative comparisons being made to Borderlands and Fallout3, I almost wish this game had been more of a clone! Both of those experiences were far greater in scope and offered much more value. Many of you don't see it, but you'll be svckered into giving them more money for content that should have been included. The way I feel is, either give me a lengthy, engrossing single-player experience a la Fallout or Borderlands, or give me an extensive multiplayer suite a la Halo:Reach or Call of Duty. Don't give me something in-between that feels castrated.

I myself am not a fan of the game but in the end how much enjoyment one gets from a game can only be determined by playing it and deciding for yourself. Sticking to the facts doesn't hurt (i.e. I am sure people who havent played and like multiplayer would definitely like to know that the multiplayer is limited to buggy battles and not foot battles).

Personally I will not buy any DLC but I don't want to deny the people who love the game any DLC. In the end any DLC will be determined by how many people like/love/buy the game.

In the end I think ID was trying to make a good product and rushed the product to market instead of making a launch delay.

Not all games chime with everyone.

While there is nothing wrong with you posting about your let down and how you feel about the game or with you telling your story, but you may not come in here and call other forum members "mindless zonbies with trashy gaming tastes". Different people have different opinions and desires and tastes and on this forum the rules indicate you will respect opinions that differ from yours and you will not call people names or flame members or groups of members....that would include members who liked this game. Then you invite people to flame you...clearly against our rules.

But hey, I'm sorry for your disappointment. I'm hoping my copy arrives today so I can share my opinion as well.

I'm closing your topic but suggest if you post here again, you read our rules first. :)
