Well, I'm holding out on getting an SSD for pretty much the same reasons you said. They're still pretty expensive compared to HDDs and they tend to have a much shorter lifespan. But if you really want one, you can always try browsing http://www.newegg.com/ and checking the customer reviews there.
thats were i got the impression that crucial and intel were the only viable choices. apparently corsair and especially ocz have horrible track records. someone posted that would have to continuously overwrite your SSD for something like 40 years nonstop to get to the point where you couldnt anymore. i dont know if they were blowing smoke or if thats an accurate assessment. also supposedly you never have to defrag so that signficicanly cuts down how many rewrites you do since you no longer have to defrag every time you install a new game or program.
@cryptoparrot............they arent actually that badly price anymore. intels are a bit more but my first velociraptor drive just as much as the SSDs are right now. i have a ton of games both on STEAM outside of STEAM and i play a lot of first person shooters and other games that are graphics and texture intensive. i also use graphics mods on pretty much every game i have...........even the RTS games. so yeah 300 would be enough to future proof........i dont plan on buying another one for as long as i can.
