Bethesda are horrednous at their own story, I'd hate to see them ruin a story that is already well established and written. I'd rather Bioware make A Song of Ice and Fire if it was going to be an RPG.

Bioware bashing aside, Dragon Age: Origin was the AGoT inspired RPG.

Great, so I could romance Cersei, Sansa, the Sand Snakes, Asha, Tyrion and probably Arya as well. Simultaneously! :P

If it has a crappy story it ain't gonna take nothing. it's just going to be another meh game that could've been more. You may not think they are capable of writing a decent story, but that is just an opinion...your opinion. Don't state your opinion and then try to put them off as facts. Those GOTY awards actually do account for something.

Like Oblivion and Fallout 3, you mean?

Again, that's just an opinion. Whether I agree with it or not doesn't make a bit of difference.

As far as GOTY goes, while it isn't everything, it is indicative that they are more than capable presenting their games in a reasonable fashion, and thus are capable of winning those awards for the games in which they develop, multiple times. I think that says something about them as a developer that some people are obviously incapable seeing, or unwilling to admit to.

It's an opinion that's pretty damn close to fact. Bethesda svcks at storytelling, and I wouldn't want them anywhere near ASOIAF. If anyone, maybe CD Projekt, though I think I'd prefer to keep ASOIAF limited to the books and the series. Don't need a game for everything, and just because something works in one medium doesn't mean it will translate well to another.

Not true at all. GOTY is sort of a joke. First of all, every publisher names some GOTY, so it's not like the title is prestigious. Second, GOTY is normally indicative of the best all-around game, and has nothing to do with story specifically. COD4 and Halo 2 have both won GOTY. Did they have stellar stories? They weren't even very good overall.

Bethesda really can't write a compelling main story, or they haven't yet. Morrowind's was only interesting because of the lore behind it, the actual progression of the story was unoriginal. Oblivion didn't even have the lore going for it, since it was so well hidden behind quest markers. Fallout 3 I didn't even finish, but the "where's daddy" angle it started with is bad enough.

Meh, I loved both Halo 2's and Oblivion's story. I think a lot of people had an issue about being secondary to Martin who it seemed like did nothing while we busted our butts. Regardless I really enjoyed the game.

Bethesda svcks at storytelling,

...and yet again, this is purely your opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Come to think about it, I believe I'll take my leave of this thread before I say something I regret. Arguing with people who think they can do a better job at it is as pointless as it is frustrating.

Have a nice thread.

If Bioware went back to Dragon Age: Origins type gameplay, I'd prefer them.

Reading through I get a lot of opinions which are completely valid as opinions, not facts. You can't go "Bethesda svck at storytelling, that's a fact", because it's simply not a fact. I could say "vodka is absolutely foul, and that's a fact", but that obviously isn't a fact at all. Again, a completely valid opinion, but how you can say that's a fact is beyond me.

A proper, critical, literary-style anolysis would get past most of the opinion-not-fact crud. Unfortunately, its been too many years since I last did such things :hehe:. And it's beyond the scope of this thread.

Seeing that AGoT has next to zero magic involved and the major epic PC participation is most likely bedding Cersei, with no sixy female elves, I doubt it will get much audience in long term.

Personally, TES is my favorite video game series and ASOIAF is my favorite book series, so I'd love Bethesda to go for it. It's a monumental project, though, and there's no way they could juggle between Fallout, TES and ASOIAF.

I'd rather they drop Fallout and pick this up, as FO is 3rd on the list for me. Good games, but I like fantasy more than a post-nuclear waste setting.

And for story, I agree Bethesda's not the best at writing story, but GRRM has been known to be active in projects that are based off his works (wrote episodes for both season 1 and 2 of HBO's Game of Thrones so far, was involved in the RTS) and I'm sure he'd have a hand in writing dialogue/plot in a game Bethesda made.

In GRRM's world, though, all our characters would die. We're the main characters, and GRRM loves killing those guys off.
