I will now create 50 forum accounts to downvote your post and upvote myself, because being the top comment guy makes me feel loved.

these forums don't need popularity contests, and thats just going to lead to more spam posts trying to get more thumbs ups.

Would it be ironic if I thumbs up your comment?

I'm in favor of DEFRON's idea instead.

This is precisely why we need an 'agree' rating.

Edit: Ok, nothing showed up because I quoted someone who just quoted someone without saying anything.

The thumbs up/thumbs down ruined youtube comments. I just don't think its a good idea.

Then even more people would reply in agreement, just to get thumbs up for agreeing with the original post. Yes, that does happen... often the number of thumbs isn't relevant to the quality of your post, but the number of people who agree with your opinion.

Thanks for explaining! I guess this is a just another case of me being fundamentally different from the average spammer. I can't imagine doing what you're describing, but obviously I'm prone to posts that exist only to thank / compliment another user.

This forum is better off without them. All it would lead to is offended users and bruising arrogant user's egos and trolling.

Ya we have had enough of user tensions in the past , I don't think we need anything else like that.

Thumbs down  . We need a button that sends a black van to a posters house which ends with the poster being "fed to the fishes".

It would be nice if the forum filtered out that plague of content-free quotations...

We had these several versions of the boards ago. It was so nice when they were removed and that is why they are not coming back.

It will reduce intelligent conversation and debate to a simple click. Now I personally like seeing intelligent debates and this would ruin it, as you can just say 'thumps downd lol' instead of intelligent responses.
Edit: Also "like if u agrie' posts.

Forum join date, rank and the little stars are equally egregious to misleading opinion, cliques, and mob mentality. No further need here for useless fluff... Trust me, we have enough of that.

The warning bar as seen by admin and moderators is by far the best feature of this forum. And the report button.

Look at the comments of any popular YouTube video. The number of "thumbs up if you agree" or "thumbs up so the uploader sees even though I could have PMed him instead" comments there should be reason enough to show why it wouldn't lead to anything good here. Same for "achievements" on a Wiki, or the Steam forums' reputation system.

Any kind of "merit badge" system just promotes useless stuff posted by people who just want to see how high their numbers can go. It gives a sense of accomplishment to them and a sense of irritation to everyone else on the forum.
