Musical Recommendations Thread

Mumford and Sons- any song but "Home" is a good starting point
The Avett Brothers - " Head Full of Doubt"

These two selections are for anyone that is sick of overly synthesized music and just wants pure instruments, vocals and beautiful harmonization all while utilizing fantastic arrangements that place foot stomping raucous choruses next to beautiful bridges.

Style: Rock/Country/Bluegrass/Folk

The former is from the UK so they have a bit of English folk influence whilst the latter is from North Carolina so they have some songs which are much more country.

Love this

This may not be everyone's thing, but I was extremely grateful to come across it, so I'll share it with you. :foodndrink:

Hipster.

I've been listening to The Dead Weather a lot recently. Its a super-group including Jack White on drums, vocals and occasional guitar. (The White Stripes, The Raconteurs) Alison Mosshart (The Kills) on vocals, and two other guys who's names I don't remember. Its a band you have to listen to a few times before you start to enjoy it, but once you do, you will absolutely love it. I have actually ended up liking them more than any of Jack or Allison's previous projects.

A few of their songs I really like.

Some of there songs sound a whole lot better live, and their on stage performance is like six. I'm serious, you can feel it in the air.

Listening to The Scorpions - Comeblack cd, some great cover tunes on there, although only one of the remade songs i thought was better than the originals, The Zoo, and Rock You Like a Hurricane is nowhere near as good imo.

You don't have to be a hipster to like indie music. That's really where a lot of the creativity in modern music is going.

Besides, isn't Arcade Fire too mainstream for hipsters by now? I mean, they have at least a hundred fans, maybe more.

"Funeral" is one of my favorite albums.

Been listening to this band quite a lot since I got their latest album on vinyl at the weekend. If you're into Type O Negative I'd recommend them; sort of a mix between them and bands like Agalloch. My only gripe is the lyrics are pretty crap and simplistic but musically they're very solid, a good blend of rock and metal.

One I'll call 'clank' because that's what someone else called it and it fits, but up until then I just called it "experimental electro indie" - it overlaps somewhat with math-rock and art-rock.

1. They're pretty mainstream - especially by hipster standards.
2. No hipster would admit to being a hipster.
