Thought I'd start a topic about some of the excellent mods for the Doom series out there. Go ahead and share some of your favorites. Make sure they stay within the forum rules though. So no advlt content, or any ID Software wads themselves.

I'll start off with one thats still being developed at the moment.

http://cutstuff.net/blog/ Strictly for Doom's Skulltag. Choose a robot master or megaman and start fragging each other with the buster, or several of the well known arsenals.

Go ahead and share yours!

Dude! That Megaman deathmatch looks EPIC

I'm surprised that this one hasn't been mentioned, or at least I haven't noticed it.

The dark mod seems interesting. But it would totally change the feel of the Doom games.

It changes DOOM 3 into a different game entirely.

Honestly, at first when I saw this mod I thought that it completely destroyed the feel and greatness that the Doom series has had and still does have. I thought it was destroying the series in general but after discussing it with people on Youtube, I have a newfound respect for this mod and it truely is EPIC

I seriously doubt it. id has released the source code for nearly all of their games just for the purpose of source ports being possible. There are similar for the Quake games too.

Anyway, for classic doom you have to play the TeamTNT megawads besides Final Doom: Icarus, Eternal Doom (because it took an eternity to make, and will take an eternity to play trough :D) and Daedalus.
Eternal had some some unusual setup procedure, but i think i got it working with ZDoom. Icarus and Deadalus are just common megawads, but Daeadalus requires ZDoom since it takes advantage of it's advanced scripting features.

Oh and if you can find it, get CyberDreams mod, 32 ways to kill Cyberdemons without weapons :D

I worked on Daedalus, I did the bonus map with the neon colors, the engine room, and one of the crew quarters. I was also the team leader for Hub 2. Unfortunately at one point during beta testing we incorporated a bunch of features from a new ZDoom release and only discovered later that a few other things were broken. It was ages before a fix was released and by then I didn't have Doom on my computer :(

Still I really loved the final product when I got to it even if they did add a cyberdemon to my level (I hate the boss monsters). :)

ZDoom had this functionality building in to it and while I can't provide a link I know people had released a lot of Heretic and Hexen critters as playable models.

I used to have a mod that replaced the player model with a box of shotgun shells. My roommate and I would both load it up - good times :)

H2Hmudfest has to be my favorite Doom wads. With over a thousand I have some to compare it to. These are the H2H competition wads and are just insane.

If you can't find em'. I got em'.

I played http://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/46002-sunder-episode-1-released-yay/ yesterday, together with AEOD, which made it even more insane. Managed to beat the first map after about a douzen quickloads, trying to stay alive while the monsters took care of themselves through infighting.

You cannot play the really crazy wads without a very good ability to make em' kill each other. A 40 Barron room is kinda tough/impossible any other way and a multi Cyber wad, I have some with 20+, requires really good tactics.

And the H2H wads:

Well one amazing port, and my favorite for playing with 3d models and HD graphics, and sound, and smooth animation is Risen3D. It's by far the only port that gives you good 3d models for Doom, the other ports don't compare at all.

Anyway Skulltag's multiplayer features make it also good

I see a few ports mentioned in here and there's also http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom/index.html, which is one I like to use alongside Doomsday that was mentioned.

As for Doom Wads, there's many good ones.

Some Doom II Megawads.

I should buy a new version of Doom. Mine is, unfortunately, way too old for 99% of mods to work. Even the older mods require at least version 1.666 to work and mine is version 1.2. Although I did have a few graphics and sound replacement mods back in the day, like one that made the creatures into various xenomorphs and turned the weapons into weapons from the Alien movies complete with sound effects or one that made the enemies into Daleks with screeching voices.

Can't you just patch your version instead of re-buying? I found this page after some quick googling: http://www.doomwadstation.com/doom_reviews/dmupgrade.html
