Buying the DOOM games

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:06 am

All the different available versions of DOOM confuse me (DOOM, DOOM II, Ultimate DOOM, Final DOOM, Which ones do people recommend?

From a Doom addict randomly browsing the Bethesda forums, just to find another of those Doom forums...

From a personal point of view, I've liked Registered Doom v1.9 the most, Season 1 being my favorite episode.

Now, could someone explain all of that in poor person's language?
As in: I don't have ten dollars.

I bought DOOM from Steam, but decided to up it a level, and upgraded to Tourettes Guy DOOM! ^_^

Wonderful mod. Stops me buying rubbish from Steam's Mann Co. Store for Team Fortress 2 ^_^

You can find them on Steam for $10 each. They are also available on IDs homepage store, but they are more expensive there.

That seems like kind of a rip-off to me, seeing as how I bought entire series in the "10 year anniversary" compilation about 6 years ago. That was only $10. The sad thing is though, it is only compatible for XP and below, doesn't work for my VIsta. Not sure about Windows 7 though.

I don't think it would be hard to set up it to use DOSBox by yourself, or use one of the many Doom ports available.

But yeah, I bought Doom 1&2 during the christmas sale 1.5 years ago on Steam and only paid $1 each instead of $10.

"That's a low price!". Good on you then. Unless they do an actual remake of these games at this point, I wouldn't think of paying more than $5 each for each game.

If you use one of the many Doom front ends (I use ZDoom), it runs fine on Win7.
